The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Texas Southern University (TSU)

invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Affairs beginning in

Fall 2026. We are seeking a dynamic scholar and dedicated educator with expertise in public

policy, public administration, and/or public affairs. The successful candidate will be expected to

teach undergraduate courses across these areas, maintain an active research agenda, and

contribute to the service mission of the university.

(Tenured-Track position)

Essential Duties Summary

  • Teaching (Undergraduate Focus): Teach a 3/3 or 3/4 course load per academic year. Responsibilities include delivering engaging in-person and/or online courses in undergraduate Political Science (e.g., American Government, Public Policy) and Public Affairs (e.g., Public Administration, Organizational Theory.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and update undergraduate curriculum to align with current industry trends and academic standards, particularly in emergency management and public administration.
  • Research and Scholarship: Maintain an active research agenda resulting in high-quality, peer-reviewed publications in public administration, public affairs, or related policy fields.
  • Student Advising & Mentorship: Provide academic advising to undergraduate students and mentor students pursuing careers in public and non-profit.
  • Service & Collaboration: Participate in departmental, college, and university committees. Engage in service to the profession and foster partnerships with community, state, or federal agencies, particularly regarding public sector leadership.

Required:

An earned Ph.D. in Public Affairs, Public Administration, Political Science, or a closely

related field from an accredited institution.

(ABD candidates will be considered, but the degree must be conferred by August 15, 2026)

  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Work Experience

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching public administration, public affairs, and/or political science at the college level.
  • Documented evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations, peer reviews).
  • Experience in online pedagogy and hybrid course delivery.
  • Practical or professional experience in public service, non-profit management and administration, or related fields.

Working/Environmental Conditions

  • Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time. Some stooping, lifting, or carrying objects of light weight may be required.
  • Prolonged standing and/or walking.
  • Handling light weight objects.
  • Using or carrying equipment.
