Description/Job Summary

Baltimore City Community College is searching for an Assistant Professor in Physical Therapist Assistant program. This position requires expertise in teaching theory and clinical courses in Physical Therapist Assistant discipline. The selected candidate will teach a minimum of 15 credit hours per semester (with a reduced courseload to support administrative duties). Responsibilities include maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; training faculty in new curriculum as needed; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in college, division, and department meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned. Teaching assignments could be any combination of face to face, hybrid or online, and are subject to change as needed

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Provides administrative leadership and strategic direction for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
  • Ensures curriculum aligns with CAPTE standards and oversees ongoing program development and compliance.
  • Leads accreditation efforts, including CAPTE reports, self-studies, and regulatory adherence.
  • Coordinates laboratory setup, maintenance, and licensure exam activities.
  • Conducts curriculum review, assessment, and updates based on outcomes and credentialing data.
  • Designs course sequence plans and master syllabi; integrates instructional technology and evidence-based practices.
  • Contributes to recruiting, hiring, and evaluating faculty.
  • Mentors faculty and oversees course scheduling and professional development.
  • Advises students, supports retention, and develops admission and performance criteria.
  • Assists Dean's office in program budget process.
  • Manages laboratory inventory (equipment, supplies, and other resources)
  • Serves as liaison to external agencies, clinical partners, and advisory boards.
  • Participates in recruitment, marketing, public outreach, and college-wide committees.
  • Leads program assessment and data analysis; implements improvements based on findings.
  • Maintains program handbooks, policy documents, and operational manuals.
  • Facilitates meetings and supports institutional events and student activities.
  • Prepares and teaches assigned courses; maintains qualifications and fulfills instructional duties.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by academic leadership and in accordance with CAPTE expectations.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • A Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant with a master's degree or higher in physical therapy or a related field (i.e., kinesiology).

Experience

  • A physical therapist or physical therapist assistant who holds an active, unencumbered PT license or PTA license/certification.
  • Minimum of five (5) years (or equivalent), full-time, post licensure experience that includes a minimum of three (3) years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience within any US jurisdiction.
  • Didactic and/or clinical teaching experience.
  • Experience in administration, management, and leadership.
  • A minimum of 60 contact hours of professional development or education specifically in the four content areas of: education theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation and outcome assessment; or will be obtained within 18 months. Or provide evidence of completion of the ABPTRFE Faculty (non-clinical) Residency program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant with a doctoral degree.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in classroom, lab, and/or clinical teaching experience.
  • Prior experience serving as a program coordinator, lead faculty, or in another academic leadership position.
  • Experience with programmatic accreditation.
  • Seven (7) or more years of recent full time clinical experience (clinical practice or faculty) in the United States.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an institution with a culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse workforce.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
