Assistant Project Manager – Heavy Civil

Location: Baltimore, MD

 

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to support and oversee heavy civil infrastructure projects for a growing construction company. This role is ideal for a hands-on, organized, and detail-oriented construction professional who thrives in complex project environments and wants to contribute to safe, high-quality project delivery.


What You’ll Do

  • Support project leadership and work closely with the Superintendent to ensure projects are built safely, on schedule, and within budget.

  • Coordinate labor, equipment, subcontractors, and construction methods for project execution.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Assist the estimating team in preparing bids for upcoming projects.

  • Solve problems proactively and support day-to-day operations of heavy civil projects.

  • Monitor project finances, schedules, and compliance with contractual obligations.


What We’re Looking For

  • BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.

  • 5–10 years of experience in heavy highway or heavy civil construction, with project financial and schedule management experience.

  • Experience estimating heavy civil or highway projects.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project scheduling software (P6). Experience with Viewpoint and HCSS is a plus.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or DBIA certification is preferred but not required.


Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily on construction sites; exposure to outdoor elements and heavy equipment is expected.

  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs, walk/stand for extended periods, and wear required PPE including steel-toed boots.

  • Tasks include climbing, stooping, kneeling, and working in confined spaces as needed.
