Responsibilities
Related Midwest, through its vertically integrated general contracting entity, LR Contracting, is seeking a motivated construction professional for an intermediate project management role with a focus on mechanical systems. This role supports large, complex projects or portfolios of smaller projects, including new construction, rehabilitation, and preservation projects.
This role is designed to apply and expand knowledge of the construction process with a specific emphasis on mechanical trade coordination, systems integration, and MEP-related project execution. This position supports project execution with increased responsibility and independence, including coordination of preconstruction activities, estimating, scheduling, logistics, cost tracking, financial reporting, contract administration, and field operations. This person will contribute to the successful execution of projects under the guidance of senior project leadership.
The role requires strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, field staff, preconstruction personnel, mechanical subcontractors, consultants, and other key stakeholders while contributing to a respectful, collaborative, and performance-driven team culture.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Lead day-to-day coordination of mechanical trade contractors, ensuring alignment with project schedule, budget, and quality standards
- Support management of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout with increasing responsibility for mechanical scopes and trade coordination
- Coordinate mechanical systems integration with other MEP trades, structural, and architectural elements to ensure constructability and design intent are maintained
- Assist in coordination between project architects, mechanical engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and field teams to support timely issue resolution
- Support procurement and mechanical subcontractor buyout activities, including bid coordination, scope review, subcontractor evaluations, award recommendations, and insurance compliance
- Manage mechanical trade contractor documentation and workflows including RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, and change order process, ensuring timely follow-through and accurate project records
- Support project cost tracking and change management processes for mechanical scopes, including monthly pay application reviews, change order evaluations, and cost reporting
- Coordinate mechanical material procurement schedules, equipment submittals, and trade sequencing with the overall project schedule
- Support commissioning activities for mechanical systems, including startup coordination, testing and balancing, and owner training
- Identify opportunities to improve mechanical scope cost efficiency, constructability, quality, and schedule performance
- Support implementation and tracking of quality procedures for mechanical installations in coordination with project team members
- Manage closeout activities for mechanical trades including punch list, final documentation, warranties, O&M manuals, and record drawings
- Support implementation and tracking of project requirements related to local business participation, workforce development, and community hiring provisions
- Actively contribute to a collaborative and respectful team culture while continuously developing professional knowledge of mechanical systems and project management practices
- Take an active role in documenting and resolving site safety observations in coordination with field teams

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent trade experience
- 3-5 years of general construction experience required, with demonstrated exposure to mechanical systems and MEP coordination
- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems in a commercial or residential construction environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage mechanical trade scopes independently, including submittals, RFIs, cost tracking, and scheduling updates
- Ability to proactively collaborate with project teams, field staff, and subcontractors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and issues are resolved promptly
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Experience with Procore, Building Connected, Plan Grid, Textura, eBuilder, Microsoft Suite, or similar platforms strongly preferred
- OSHA 30 certification preferred or ability to obtain within designated timeframe
