Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Construction

Are you a recent graduate looking to build a career in mechanical construction and project management? A well-established mechanical contractor in the Buffalo area is seeking an Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Construction to join its growing team.

This full-time, on-site role offers approximately $55,000 annually and is ideal for someone early in their career who wants hands-on exposure to the mechanical construction industry. As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll work alongside experienced Project Managers and learn how projects move from estimating and preconstruction through coordination, field execution, and completion.

This Assistant Project Manager role is designed for someone who wants to grow into a long-term career in construction project management. You don’t need years of experience — the team is looking for someone who is organized, dependable, mechanically inclined, and eager to learn. With hands-on training and mentorship, the goal is to develop the Assistant Project Manager into someone who can eventually manage projects independently.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Administration

  • Assist Project Managers with planning and coordinating mechanical construction projects
  • Support bids, estimates, proposals, change orders, and project documentation
  • Maintain project files, schedules, tracking, and correspondence
  • Review project plans, specifications, and scopes of work
  • Help track project schedules, materials, costs, and outstanding items

Field & Vendor Coordination

  • Visit jobsites to learn mechanical installations, construction methods, and project workflows
  • Work with Project Managers and field teams to understand jobsite conditions and project needs
  • Assist with obtaining pricing and coordinating materials and equipment
  • Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, field teams, and other project partners
  • Develop an understanding of mechanical systems, equipment, and construction processes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree, or relevant certification in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field
  • Recent graduates and early-career candidates are encouraged to apply
  • Genuine interest in mechanical construction and becoming a Project Manager
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable learning technical concepts
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and eagerness to learn
  • Ability to work fully on-site and travel locally to jobsites as needed
  • Construction internship, co-op, Project Management certificate, or related experience is helpful but not required
