The Assistant Superintendent supports the Project Superintendent with all aspects of construction on projects and is accountable for ensuring compliance with construction documents, specifications, codes, schedules as well as controlling cost to ensure the project is constructed within the Budgets provided. The Assistant Superintendent also supports the installation, testing and startup of Mechanical, Electrical, or other specialized systems. The Assistant Superintendent must provide the necessary leadership to keep the day-to-day operations running smoothly on the project assigned, or their designated section of responsibility by establishing work tasks to be completed by subcontractors and their crews. This position may entail reviews and controls labor and material costs associated with changes to the project scope and ensures that the work being done by subcontractors is accomplished at the lowest cost possible. The Assistant Superintendent ensures that all daily reports and other field documentation required for historical reference are accurate and input into the project management software. Continual inspection of the work being completed in accordance with the construction documents is required. This position creates daily progress reports and assists other departments in the preparation of reports concerning the status of fieldwork.

  • Normally requires a 4-year degree in Engineering or Construction Management and 5 years field experience OR 5-8 years of construction field operations experience and/or skilled trades leadership experience.
  • Must be able to travel to and work at the project site, this travel may be up to 100%.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle for travel to project sites and client meetings.

  • Review contract plans and specifications to determine whether the scope of work is properly defined, and the documents are complete.
  • Ensure work is installed with the proper methods, tolerances and at locations in accordance with the intent of the plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate and assist subcontractors when problems arise to resolve issues quickly and make recommendations for remediation when required.
  • Coordinate testing and energizing of equipment and systems in their trade of responsibility to ascertain if the Building Official's requirements will be met and that these systems function properly.
  • Prepare and manage the completion of punch lists in their trade of responsibility.
  • Promote safety in all aspects of the construction process to eliminate accidents on the project site.
