Responsibilities

Position Overview

REI Systems is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to develop and maintain modern full stack applications supporting the ODOS Program. The successful candidate will work with experienced engineers, product owners, analysts, designers, testers, and DevOps professionals to deliver reliable, secure, and user-focused software. This role is ideal for an early-career developer who has a strong foundation in Java and modern web development and is eager to grow within an Agile and DevSecOps environment.

Responsibilities

Full Stack Development

• Develop and maintain full stack web applications using Java, Spring Boot, Angular, React, and JavaScript.
• Develop backend business logic and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build responsive and reusable user interfaces using Angular, React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Integrate front-end applications with backend APIs, databases, and enterprise services.
• Develop and maintain applications using PostgreSQL, Oracle SQL, and other relational database technologies.
• Write and maintain SQL queries and support application data models and integrations.
• Develop clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-tested code following established software engineering standards.
• Troubleshoot application defects and integration issues with support from senior team members.

Testing CI CD and Production Support

• Develop unit and integration tests to improve application quality and reliability.
• Participate in automated testing using tools such as JUnit, Cucumber, and Selenium.
• Use Git and GitHub for source control, branching, collaboration, and code reviews.
• Work with Jenkins and CI/CD pipelines to build and deploy applications.
• Collaborate with DevOps engineers to support deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments.
• Use Splunk and New Relic to review application logs, monitor application behavior, and assist with triaging production incidents and performance issues.
• Support defect remediation and secure software development activities.

Collaboration

• Work with product owners, business analysts, UX designers, QA engineers, architects, DevOps engineers, and other developers.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, design discussions, code reviews, and technical troubleshooting sessions.
• Learn and apply established software development, DevSecOps, testing, and engineering practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• 1-3 years of professional software development experience.
• Experience or strong foundational knowledge of Java.
• Experience developing applications using Spring Boot or similar Java frameworks.
• Experience with Angular, React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Understanding of RESTful APIs and relational databases.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle SQL, or comparable relational databases.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub and modern source-control practices.
• Familiarity with automated testing and CI/CD concepts.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS cloud environments.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Exposure to Jenkins or other CI/CD technologies.
• Experience with Splunk, New Relic, or comparable monitoring and observability tools.
• Familiarity with microservices and cloud-native application development.
• Familiarity with Agile and DevSecOps practices.

Education: Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

Clearance: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Clearance.

Location: Hybrid (2 Day per week in our Sterling, VA HQ on Tuesday and Wednesday)
