ASSOCIATE TECHNICAL SPECIALIST - TECHNICAL SPECIALIST - Engineering Fabrication

Who We Are:

The Fabrication Shop Section provides engineered fabrication services for commercial and government customers. We fabricate precision machined components and welded joint assemblies to the most stringent of requirements. We service all technical areas of Southwest Research Institute and are deeply involved in SwRI pressure vessel program for various land-based, subsea, manned, and unmanned applications. The Fabrication Shop executes projects that cover every aspect of SwRI’s slogan “from deep sea to deep space."

Objectives of this Role:

• Apply principles of planning, scheduling, cost tracking, technical progress tracking, reporting, document control, risk mitigation, and troubleshooting to assist in project fabrication efforts by translating project requirements into production success.
• Communicate effectively to assist with large fabrication efforts involving internal teams, vendors, and internal and external customers.
• Provide recommendations to management regarding opportunities for technical improvement for section staff and processes based on project performance.
• Aid in the development of various tracking and forecasting tools, methods and procedures related to document control, planning, scheduling, level of technical completion, cost, and other relevant metrics.
• Effectively communicate via written and verbal methods across the spectrum of internal and external stakeholders.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

• Work to ensure proper processes and procedures are followed through real time process inspections, review of documentation and other OQE.
• Evaluate production procedures for completion, effectiveness, adequacy and compliance.
• Manage fabrication shop program/project logistics to align with procedure development and modifications to ensure project requirements are met and appropriately verified and documented.
• Aid in project reporting needs, metric calculation, and tracking.
• Support and facilitate collaboration between team members and evaluate the implementation and improvement of existing production practices, ensuring adherence to codes and requirements.
• Assist with the development and maintenance of records supporting specific project needs, making recommendations for process adjustments based on observed performance, issue frequency, etc.
• Maintain project inventory tracking databases and reporting metrics.
• Work as part of a team in the preparation and technical review of fabrication project proposals, ensuring feasibility, i.e. schedule loading, critical resource availability, and compliance with technical project requirements.

Requirements:

• Requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering Management, Construction Management, or related technical management degree field.
• Shift work required.
• 0-6 years: Experience in the development and execution of technical production practices. Hands-on experience dealing with clients and vendors to execute projects. Ability to exercise independent judgment to make effective decisions to achieve project metrics.
• Capability to identify opportunities for improvement in production practices and metric tracking based on observed team performance to achieve project goals.
• Proficiency in both verbal and written effective communication methods. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and technical troubleshooting to make or recommend effective project recommendations to achieve satisfactory outcomes.
• A valid/clear driver's license is required.
