As a member of the Residence Life central management team, the Assistant Director for Residential Staff Development works collaboratively to support the strategic goals and Catholic mission of the University. The Assistant Director provides direct supervision and developmental oversight for the department''s live-in professional staff. This position leads professional staff recruitment, onboarding, training, evaluation, and retention initiatives while cultivating a positive and accountable staff culture. The Assistant Director also serves in the Central Duty rotation and contributes to departmental planning, policy development, and divisional initiatives. This is a live-on position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision

  • Directly supervise Residence Coordinators.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance evaluations.
  • Develop individualized professional development plans for staff.
  • Establish and monitor goals, expectations, and accountability measures/documentation.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and support regarding student concerns, crisis response, conflict management, and supervisory practices.
  • Coordinate professional staff recognition and retention initiatives.

Training and Leadership Development

  • Develop and facilitate ongoing professional staff training throughout the year.
  • Coordinate monthly professional development workshops and retreats.
  • Partner with campus departments to provide relevant training opportunities.
  • Assess training effectiveness and implement improvements based on feedback and department needs.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development within the department.

Professional Staff Recruitment, Selection, and Onboarding

  • Coordinate all aspects of professional staff recruitment, including search committees, candidate experiences, reference checks, and hiring recommendations.
  • Develop and implement onboarding programs for new professional staff.
  • Create transition plans and resources for newly hired staff members.
  • Ensure staff understand departmental policies, campus resources, and university expectations.

Department Leadership and Strategic Initiatives

  • Assist with departmental policy development, strategic planning, and goal implementation.
  • Lead departmental committees and task forces.
  • Represent Residence Life on institutional committees and at university events.
  • Assist with hall openings, closings, orientation programs, and emergency planning.
  • Ensure staff understand departmental policies, campus resources, and university expectations.

Behavioral Intervention and Crisis Response

  • Participate in the Central Staff On-Call rotation.
  • Respond to student crises and emergencies.
  • Serve as a conduct officer when assigned.
  • Provide consultation to professional staff regarding complex student situations.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Master''s Degree in Higher Education Adminstration or related field.

1-3 years progressive Residence Life experience

Past experience supervising professional/graduate level staff.

Salary Range:

$58,000 per year

Exempt/Nonexempt: Exempt

Physical Demands: General Office Environment
