JOB SUMMARY

The ASU Mechanical Reliability Trainer is responsible for developing, executing, and managing comprehensive mechanical training programs that support the technical development of mechanical technicians, performance technicians, and reliability personnel across Nippon Sanso Matheson's Bulk Operations organization. This role maintains and manages structured progression schedules, ensuring employees advance through defined competency levels in alignment with operational and reliability expectations. The trainer also serves as the subject matter expert for all mechanical condition monitoring programs, providing technical leadership, program oversight, and continuous improvement to strengthen mechanical reliability across Nippon Sanso Matheson's ASU fleet.

Essential Functions

Mechanical Training Program Development & Delivery

Develop, update, and deliver mechanical training curricula covering rotating equipment, static equipment, compressors, pumps, cryogenic machinery, and ASU specific mechanical systems.

Conduct classroom, hands on, and field based training for mechanical and performance technicians.

Create training materials, assessments, certification pathways, and competency evaluations.

Ensure training content reflects current industry standards, OEM guidance, and NSM best practices.

Progression Program Management

Maintain and manage progression schedules for mechanical technicians and performance technicians.

Track individual development plans, training milestones, and competency achievements.

Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to support employee growth.

Collaborate with operations and reliability leadership to ensure progression expectations align with business needs.

Mechanical Condition Monitoring Expertise

Serve as the subject matter expert for mechanical condition monitoring programs.

Develop and maintain standards, procedures, and best practices for mechanical condition monitoring.

Support troubleshooting, failure investigations, and root cause analysis (RCA).

Support reliability improvement initiatives across ASU sites.

Program Administration & Compliance

Maintain accurate training records, documentation, and certification files.

Ensure training programs comply with internal policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Coordinate training schedules with operations, engineering, and reliability teams.

Evaluate training effectiveness and implement continuous improvement strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Associate''s Degree Mechanical Tech, Industrial Maintenance, Mech. Engineering Tech is Required

Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering is Preferred

Work Experience

Experience Experience Details Required/Preferred

7+ years hands on mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industrial, continuous process, or rotating equipment intensive environments such as: ASU, Petrochemical, Refining, Power Generation is Required

7+ years of experience performing or supporting mechanical condition monitoring programs, including vibration analysis, thermography, lubrication analysis, and alignment/balancing is Required

5+ years of experience developing or delivering technical training is Required

5+ years of experience performing or supporting condition monitoring programs is Preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical Knowledge

Strong understanding of ASU mechanical systems, including compressors, expanders, pumps, heat exchangers, and cryogenic equipment.

Knowledge of rotating equipment fundamentals, mechanical integrity, and reliability engineering principles.

Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and methodologies (CBM, RCM, FMEA).

Understanding of lubrication systems, alignment techniques, and vibration fundamentals.

Skills

Ability to design and deliver effective technical training for diverse skill levels.

Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation abilities.

Skilled in curriculum development, competency assessment, and progression planning.

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Abilities

Ability to mentor and develop technical personnel in a structured progression environment.

Ability to translate complex mechanical concepts into accessible training content.

Ability to lead reliability initiatives and influence cross functional teams.

Ability to work independently while collaborating across operations, engineering, and reliability groups.

Ability to travel to NSM sites as needed for training and support.

Licenses/Certifications Licenses/Certification Details Time Frame Required/Preferred

Certification Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) is Preferred

Certification Root Cause Analysis (RCA) facilitator training is Preferred

Certification Vibration Analysis Certification (ISO Cat I or II) is Required

Certification Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician (CMRT) is Preferred

Certification OEM specific mechanical equipment training is Preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands: While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, bend and twist, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, equipment, tools or controls.

Physical Demands: Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Physical Demands: Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Condition This role will be performed in office environments as well as in industrial field environments. While performing duties of this job it would occasionally be required to:

  • Be exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme cold (e.g. operating plant).
  • Be exposed to outside weather conditions (e.g. cold box valves, filling trailers).
  • Be exposed to high, precarious places (e.g. cold box, repair work)
  • Be exposed to high noise levels (e.g. Plant rounds, maintenance)

Working Condition May also be required to work from a home location, which must be conducive to performing the role and duties, including virtual/video meetings.

Working Condition Must sign NDA, have a clean driving record and pass background check and drug test.

Travel Requirements

Estimated 25% Ability to travel and required to provide weekend and evening support as needed.

Pay Range: $120,000 to $140,000 per year.
