Position Information
Job Title Athlete Academic Support and Retention Student Assistant Position Summary
The Texas Wesleyan University Athletic Department is looking for a student employee who will assist in various activities for the academic support, game planning and well-being of our student-athletes. The student will work various hours depending on needs of the department and time of year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor and record attendance for student-athlete study sessions; ensure a quiet, productive environment conducive to learning.
- Meet with student-athletes to provide peer academic support, time management strategies, and encouragement as needed.
- Help plan, coordinate, and execute academic workshops, recognition events, and other department-sponsored programs.
- Assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services and Retention with social media, clerical tasks, scheduling, data entry, and preparing materials for meetings or events.
- Maintain strict adherence to institutional and federal privacy laws (e.g., FERPA) regarding student records and information.
- Work game days and assist in planning as needed
Education, Certifications and/or Licenses Experience
None required, training will be given
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student in good standing (minimum sophomore standing)
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 (3.5 preferred)
- Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to upholding confidentiality and privacy standards
- Interest in academic support, student success, or student-athlete development
- Ability to work effectively, diplomatically and professionally with a wide range of constituencies.

- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

- Ability to move around campus running errands.
- Ability to withstand exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Prior experience as a student-athlete or in a student support/service role (preferred)
- Knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations related to academic eligibility (a plus, but not required)
