Athletics Academic Specialist (Part-time/ Limited)

The Athletics Academic Specialist is responsible for using professional concepts and practices to support, develop, and counsel student-athletes in various sports programs on specific learning skills and styles while promoting an environment of academic excellence and fostering student success and retention. The incumbent will monitor and enhance the opportunity for progress towards a degree, graduation, and continuing eligibility in accordance with UCR, Big West Conference, and NCAA regulations. This recruitment is for two (2) part-time, less than 1,000-hour positions. The salary range for this position is $54,183.60 - $91,350.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Offers of employment are dependent on completing a misconduct disclosure and potential background check.\n \nDelivers professional academic programs to students that enhance academic success through a course-based format of service for a limited range of learning issues for a narrow field of study in an academic discipline.Assesses the appropriate needs of students; may refer students to specific student programs such as the disabled student program, financial aid, and college/departmental advisors.Adapts counseling to specific learning styles and linguistic issues.Utilizes different academic support service models to support and enhance student learning, academic success, and intellectual development.Applies and administers intake, assessment, and evaluation tools to a broad range of students of varying learning needs and levels of academic preparedness.Supports and mentors undergraduates to enhance disciplinary and professional trajectories.Monitors and mentors student peer counselors/tutors.Other duties as assigned.\n \nBasic knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills.Basic skill in evaluating tutor performance against program standards.Basic knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.Basic ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.Basic skills in judgment and decision-making.Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems.Basic knowledge of learning theories and training models.Basic problem solving skills.Basic knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students.Basic knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific).\n \nBasic skills in judgment and decision-making.
