A well-established New York law firm is seeking an experienced Attorney Phone Advisor for its Hauppauge, NY office. This full-time opportunity is designed for an attorney who enjoys providing practical legal guidance but is looking for an alternative to the traditional law firm model.
The attorney will primarily provide legal advice to members by telephone. The role does not involve billable hours, a traditional caseload, or a regular court schedule.
Responsibilities
Manage incoming calls and identify members' legal issues.
Ask pertinent questions, actively listen, and assess the information provided.
Provide practical legal advice based on applicable law and sound legal judgment.
Review documents and conduct legal research when necessary.
Synthesize facts and law to formulate appropriate legal guidance.
Document client matters in proprietary case-management systems.
Build rapport and provide a strong telephone client experience.
Maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters.
Refer more involved matters for potential retention when appropriate.
Perform administrative and management functions related to the practice of law.
Qualifications
J.D. required.
Admission to the New York Bar before 2021.
Active and in good standing with the New York Bar.
Experienced attorneys preferred, with strong New York legal experience highly desirable.
Landlord/Tenant experience is particularly valuable.
Experience in Estates/Estate Planning, Elder Law, Family/Matrimonial Law, Employment Law, Collections, or Intellectual Property is preferred.
Strong research, writing, verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent telephone communication, listening, and rapport-building abilities.
Ability to provide practical legal advice without maintaining a traditional litigation caseload.
Retired attorneys are welcome.
Work Arrangement
The position is based in Hauppauge, NY, and is intended for Long Island-based attorneys. Initial onsite training is required. Following training, a hybrid or fully remote arrangement may be available depending on circumstances, commute distance, performance, and firm needs.
Candidates located in New Jersey or upstate New York are not being targeted for this opportunity.
Compensation & Benefits
$85,000 base salary.
Discretionary year-end bonus paid in December.
United Healthcare/Oxford medical insurance, with the firm paying 80% of the individual employee premium.
Guardian dental and long-term disability coverage.

401(k) through ADP; currently no company match.
Paid time off and approximately 10 paid holidays.
Medical benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
