The Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) oversees the delivery of high-quality legal services to indigent individuals accused of crimes through a network of dedicated public defenders and support staff serving all 64 Louisiana parishes.
As a valued member of the audit team, you will play a key role in promoting accountability, transparency, and operational excellence across Louisianas 42 district public defender offices. Working under the guidance of a lead auditor-and independently when needed-you will conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual audits to evaluate compliance with state laws, rules, and regulations, assess organizational effectiveness and efficiency, and help ensure the uniform, accurate, and equitable distribution of state funding.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in accounting or auditing; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR
A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR
A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
A bachelor's degree plus a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP) designation; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Reviews and evaluates annual, quarterly, monthly financial and other mandatory reports submitted by the forty-two (42) district public defender offices for compliance with OSPD and state policies and procedures; reviews districts annual budgets and budget revisions; communicates approval s or issues and recommendations to the districts ; communicates corrective recommendations and follows up on corrective status
Schedules and performs on-site district office field audits to determine office effectiveness and efficiencies; Prepares reports based on audit findings; follow s up on corrective recommendations
Reviews districts required annual independent CPA audits and prepares review letters with recommendations
Develops the OSPD audit plan and protocols and provides to the districts; meets with district and OSPD staff as necessary ; maintains audit records/documentation as required by 05PD retention schedules
Performs other audit/compliance related tasks as assigned by the SPD/SPM2
