Responsibilities This position primarily assists in and/or performs attestation reviews/risk assessments that adhere to generally accepted government auditing standards (GAGAS) for contracts of consultants and railroad companies and performs internal audits/risk assessments of the bureaus, offices, and regions of the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) organizational entities and processes. The auditor position may be tasked with completing special assignments and investigations.The auditor position may also assist in and/or conduct reviews of pre‑awards, proposed agreements, prequalification reviews, and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) working papers.The auditor position may also assist in and/or perform attestation reviews that adhere to GAGAS for costs for contracts of local units of government, planning agencies, public transit authorities and agencies, universities, public utilities, and others doing business with MDOT for highway maintenance, transportation services, construction, relocation of utility facilities, improvements on federal aid systems, economic development projects, and other services.The auditor position is also responsible for performing other duties as assigned, and as needed, can be rotated within the Office of Commission Audits (OCA).Education Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.NOTE: Applicants who will be obtaining a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester credits by May 31, 2026 may be considered.Experience Auditor 9: No specific type or amount of professional experience is required.Auditor 10: One year of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor 9.Auditor P11: Two years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor 10.Auditor 12: Three years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor P11.Alternate Education and Experience For some positions, possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester credits in finance, economics, information systems, business analytics, data analytics, statistics, quantitative methods, data science, or management may be substituted for the accounting education requirement.A Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Information System Auditor certification may substitute for one year of P11-level experience for internal auditing roles.A Certified Management Accountant certification may substitute for six months of P11-level experience.A Certified Public Accountant certification may substitute for one year of Auditor experience.Application Requirements Attach a detailed résumé and cover letter.If applicable, attach a copy of your official college transcripts and/or foreign degree evaluation.
