A Day on the 2nd Shift

You clock in as the afternoon hum picks up. Your station is prepped, and you review the day’s process sheets. You’ll configure and run automated equipment that cuts and strips wire to precise lengths, swapping blades, rollers, and guide tubes when needed. With a ruler or tape measure in hand, you double-check dimensions, keep scrap low, and make sure every bundle meets spec. You’ll move between machines as demand shifts, recording production details, performing basic troubleshooting, and keeping your workspace orderly and safe.

Your Impact This Shift

• Configure and operate automated wire cutting and stripping machines according to documented procedures
• Set up machines following process sheets and change tooling components (cutting blades, rollers, guide tubes) as required
• Use a ruler or tape measure to verify lengths and dimensions with accuracy
• Monitor equipment performance to uphold quality standards and reduce material waste
• Count, bundle, and stage finished parts; remove nonconforming pieces through inspection
• Read and interpret production prints to ensure specs and tolerances are met
• Document production metrics and maintain accurate records
• Perform basic machine troubleshooting to keep lines running
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow 5S-minded practices
• Shift between machines and workstations based on production priorities

Must-Haves

• Ability to read a ruler or tape measure accurately
• Follow written and verbal work instructions
• Apply basic math, including fractions
• Clear communication and teamwork skills
• Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
• Comfort with repetitive production tasks
• High school diploma or equivalent

Nice-to-Haves

• Familiarity with process sheets
• Prior machine operation or manufacturing experience
• Hands-on time with automated machinery
• Use of calipers, micrometers, or comparable metrology tools
• Experience reading prints, drawings, or schematics
• Previous machine setup experience

Physical Aspects of the Role

• Stand for extended periods; perform repetitive hand movements
• Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
• Regularly lift and move up to 20 lbs.; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
• Bend, reach, kneel, push, and pull as tasks require
• Work in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise
