Automation Technician II performs intermediate-level service and troubleshooting on automation systems with reduced supervision. Responsibilities include detailed preventative maintenance, wiring and installation of control components, testing and calibration of devices, and resolving mid-level electrical or communication issues. The role coordinates with project managers and programmers for complex tasks and supports system commissioning and customer communication.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Performing detailed preventative maintenance on PLC systems, HMI devices, instrumentation, and control circuits
Troubleshooting mid-level automation issues involving sensors, relays, drives, communication networks, and I/O failures
Installing and wiring control panels, field devices, and instrumentation according to specifications and drawings
Testing, calibrating, and verifying proper operation of automation and instrumentation components
Supporting system commissioning and field validation activities
Preparing documentation, test results, and recommended corrective actions
Coordinating with project managers, programmers, and senior technicians for complex or integrated system issues
Providing customer support by explaining findings, maintenance needs, and corrective actions
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED required
2 to 4 years of experience in industrial controls, automation, electrical maintenance, or field service work
Ability to perform detailed preventative maintenance and system-level diagnostics with minimal supervision
Working knowledge of PLC systems, HMI devices, instrumentation, control circuits, sensors, relays, drives, and communication networks
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and control documentation
Experience supporting commissioning, testing, and field validation activities
Ability to coordinate with internal teams and customers on technical findings and corrective actions
