Aviation Technical Writer 1

Overview We are seeking a full-time Aviation Technical Writer 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for creating reader-friendly user's guides and installation and maintenance manuals. Essential Functions Research and collect data to write pilot's guides, quick reference guides, installation manuals, maintenance manuals, and/or service documents Create electronic documents using word processing and desktop publishing tools Communicate with Design Engineers regarding product specifications and product development Research airframe technical characteristics to accurately document functions/features of specific aviation products Provide software beta testing input for Design Engineers, Program Managers, and Human Factors team Facilitate the rework of mechanical drawings and screen captures Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or another related technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Must possess experience in the aviation industry and working with and/or using avionics Must demonstrate proficiency using word processing tools such as Microsoft Word Must be detail-oriented, possess the ability to work proactively/effectively with minimal supervision, and the ability to prioritize/multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Desired Qualifications Experience and/or knowledge in electronics relevant to the essential functions of this job description Private Pilot Certificate or A&P Certificate Instrument Rating Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Experience (InDesign, Photoshop or Illustrator) Familiar with aviation phraseology and flight operations procedures Basic understanding of S1000D documentation standards Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
