Backend QA Engineer – FIX Protocol (Trading Systems) – Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 base + discretionary annual bonus

Must-have: hands-on FIX protocol testing experience (FIX 4.2/4.4 order flow, execution reports, session/sequence handling, QuickFIX/J or similar).

E-Frontiers is partnering with a fast-growing, CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange and clearinghouse in Chicago to hire a Backend QA Specialist. You'll drive quality across the core Exchange, Clearing and Instrument management systems, extending the QA automation framework and building out comprehensive testing for high-performance trading infrastructure.

What you'll do

  • Extend and maintain a Java-based QA automation framework
  • Design and build manual and automated test cases for high-performance exchange and clearing platforms
  • Rigorously test all interfaces, including FIX protocol, proprietary binary formats and file formats
  • Test admin and customer-facing interfaces using Playwright and manual approaches, covering functionality, data integrity, security compliance and performance
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define and enforce rigorous quality standards
  • Monitor and report on system performance, data integrity and compliance

What you'll bring

  • Essential: hands-on experience testing FIX protocol messaging (FIX 4.2/4.4) in a trading, exchange, broker or clearing environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 3+ years of QA / software testing experience, ideally in financial services
  • Strong proficiency in Java, Python, FIX and SQL
  • Hands-on xxzpjkt experience with Cucumber, Playwright and JUnit
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with derivatives or financial markets is a strong plus
