POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bakery Cook prepares, bakes, and finishes a variety of bakery products in accordance with company recipes, quality standards, food safety requirements, and production schedules. This position supports daily bakery operations by producing fresh bakery items, maintaining product quality and presentation standards, and operating bakery equipment safely. The Bakery Cook serves as a representative of Cardenas Markets by demonstrating the Company's core values and commitment to customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare, bake, cook, and finish bakery products including breads, cookies, pastries, desserts, cakes, pan dulce, and other specialty items according to established recipes and production standards;
• Measure, mix, shape, decorate, package, label, and store bakery products accurately and efficiently;
• Review production schedules and prepare products in quantities necessary to support customer demand and minimize waste;
• Maintain knowledge of bakery ingredients, recipes, baking techniques, and bakery equipment;
• Operate bakery equipment safely, including mixers, ovens, slicers, proofers, blenders, and other production equipment;
• Monitor product quality, freshness, appearance, and consistency throughout the production process;
• Stock, rotate, merchandise, and replenish bakery products while ensuring accurate pricing and product labeling;
• Conduct inventory counts and notify management of supply, ingredient, and product needs;
• Maintain department standards for sanitation, food safety, cleanliness, organization, loss prevention, and workplace safety;
• Follow all applicable food handling, health, and safety regulations;
• Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and questions regarding bakery products;
• Communicate effectively with management and team members regarding production needs and operational concerns;
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

• Responds to customer questions and requests in a professional, courteous, and timely manner;
• Demonstrates product knowledge and offers recommendations to enhance customer experience;

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Valid Food Handlers Card;
• Customer Service and retail experience desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK CONDITIONS:

• WALKING: Frequent movement throughout production, storage, and sales areas during the shift;
• STANDING: Continuous standing while preparing, baking, packaging, and merchandising products;
• LIFTING/CARRYING: Frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds;
• BENDING/REACHING/STOOPING: Frequent bending, reaching, and stooping when handling ingredients, supplies, and products;
• MANUAL DEXTERITY: Continuous use of hands for mixing, decorating, packaging, labeling, and equipment operation;
• WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to hot ovens, refrigerated storage areas, cleaning chemicals, sharp utensils, and wet or slippery surfaces;
• SAFETY: Compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures is required at all times.
