Position Summary
The Banquet Server sets up, serves, and breaks down banquet and catered events, providing courteous, professional, and efficient food and beverage service to guests. This is an on call position. Work is scheduled as events are booked, and shifts vary by week.
Essential Duties
- Review the Banquet Event Order and attend pre event meetings to learn the details of each function.
- Set up banquet rooms as instructed, including tables, linens, china, glassware, silverware, and buffet and service stations.
- Serve food and beverages in the order and style specified for the event, and replenish beverages and buffet items as needed.
- Check with guests for satisfaction, respond to special requests, and resolve concerns promptly or refer them to a supervisor.
- Clear dishes promptly as guests finish each course and at the end of the event.
- Break down and reset banquet rooms, and return equipment and supplies to storage.
- Serve alcoholic beverages only in accordance with California law and hotel policy, including checking identification and not serving anyone who appears intoxicated.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Work as a team with banquet, kitchen, and other hotel staff, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous banquet or restaurant serving experience preferred. Training provided.
- Ability to read and follow event orders and remember menu items.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate well enough to follow instructions and assist guests.
- Friendly, professional manner, with attention to detail and a team attitude.
- Must obtain a California Food Handler Card within 30 days of hire.
- Must obtain Responsible Beverage Service certification within 60 days of hire if serving alcohol.
- Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays, as events are scheduled around guest needs.
Physical Demands
Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, and carry trays, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, including tables, chairs, and equipment.
Schedule
On call position. Shifts are offered based on event volume and may be short notice. Hours are not guaranteed.
Pay and Benefits
Pay: $16.90 to $17.40 per hour, plus gratuities.
Benefits: paid sick leave as required by California law.
