Behavior Intervention Teacher

Reports to: Building Principal in collaboration with the Director of Special Education

Status: Certified Teaching Position

Hours: Full Time

Position Summary:

• Provide targeted behavioral, social-emotional, and academic support for elementary students with and without disabilities.
• Lead a structured, transitional alternative learning environment focused on building regulation skills and successful return to general education, while strengthening schoolwide Tier 2 behavioral interventions.
• Time spent in the alternative environment and schoolwide support will shift based on student needs.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Alternative Learning Environment: Provide individualized and small-group instruction in emotional regulation, coping strategies, social skills, self-management, and academic engagement; maintain access to classroom instruction.
• Reintegration: Collaborate with classroom teachers to establish measurable student goals, planned opportunities to practice skills in general education, and gradual transitions supported by progress data.
• Tier 2 Interventions: Coordinate and implement targeted supports such as Check-In/Check-Out, self-monitoring, small groups, and individualized behavior interventions within the school's MTSS framework.
• Data & Problem Solving: Collect and analyze behavior and engagement data; monitor intervention effectiveness, maintain documentation, and adjust supports with school teams.
• Schoolwide Collaboration: Observe, model, and coach effective classroom-based practices; support staff with proactive behavior strategies, prevention, de-escalation, and consistent intervention implementation.
• Special Education Coordination: Work closely with special education teachers to plan, coordinate, and deliver student services and supports; collaborate on FBAs, BIPs, IEP implementation, and transitions as appropriate.
• Team & Family Communication: Partner with administrators, student services staff, general educators, special educators, and families to coordinate supports and communicate student progress.

Qualifications:

• Required: Valid Wisconsin DPI teaching license appropriate to assigned instructional duties; strong skills in classroom instruction, positive behavior supports, collaboration, and data-based decision-making.
• Preferred: Experience with students who have significant behavioral or emotional needs; special education background; knowledge of MTSS, Tier 2 interventions, FBAs/BIPs, trauma-informed approaches, and crisis prevention/de-escalation.
• Ideal Candidate will have an elementary education license, Special Education licensure, and experience working with difficult student behaviors.
