Primary Purpose:
Provide direct student and family services, as well as consultative services for referred students to enable students to develop competencies and skills to function in society

Education / Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or counseling from an accredited university (required).
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (preferred).
  • Master’s degree in education, special education, behavior, autism, counseling or a related field (preferred) 
  • Counseling certification preferred.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
  • Effective interpersonal skills and willingness to work collaboratively with classroom teachers.
  • Effective coaching, problem-solving and consultative skills Knowledge and understanding of federal and state special education and 504 laws.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorder and research-based behavior strategies.
  • Expertise in development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Understanding of the components of positive behavior support systems.
Experience:
  • Experience teaching Special education (preferred).
  • Experience working with students who have significant behavioral/emotional challenges.
  • Experience with CPI, conflict resolution, and/or crisis intervention.
  • Experience conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and developing Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Experience providing short-term counseling.
Responsibilities:
Direct Services:
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments.
  • Teach social skills to assigned students/groups.
  • Attend ARD meetings as needed.
  • Assist campus staff in crisis situations.
Collaboration and Instructional Coaching:
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Assess and implement home/school behavior intervention/support models.
  • Monitor behavior units once a week and provide guidance/support to campus staff.
  • Consult with ABLE units teachers on a regular basis regarding students’ behavior.
  • Assist campus staff with data collection and analysis as it relates to behavior.
  • Provide intervention, observation, and consultation for students experiencing behavior challenges.
  • Train campus staff who work directly with students with behavior challenges.
Communication:
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students and parents.
  • Maintain professional relationships and open communication with district personnel.
Professional Growth:
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to improve on and keep updated on behavior intervention skills and strategies.
Other:
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies.
  • Compile, maintain and file reports, records and other forms of documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
