Job Description

Innovative Vitality ABA, Inc. is seeking compassionate, dependable, and professional Behavior Technicians to provide high-quality, individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children in their homes and communities.

Behavior Technicians work directly with assigned clients under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or authorized clinical supervisor. The BT implements established treatment programs, collects objective data, supports meaningful skill development, and maintains professional communication with the client’s care team.

This position is appropriate for individuals with direct-care or ABA experience who are interested in developing their behavioral-service skills. RBT certification is not required for this position.

The ideal candidate is patient, receptive to feedback, comfortable working independently in home-based settings, and committed to client dignity, safety, confidentiality, and ethical service delivery. This position requires reliable attendance, accurate documentation, active participation in supervision and training, and consistent implementation of written clinical protocols.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in ABA or a closely related direct-care field required.
  • Recent experience supporting children with autism spectrum disorder or related developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Experience providing services in client homes or community settings is helpful.
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification is not required.

Certifications, Clearances, and Transportation

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain it within IV’s required timeframe.
  • Completion of required sexual-harassment prevention, mandated-reporter, safety, and company training.
  • Successful Live Scan/fingerprint and Child Abuse Central Index clearances, as applicable.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to maintain all position-related credentials, clearances, and training requirements throughout employment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of ABA principles, prompting, reinforcement, skill acquisition, behavior reduction, and objective data collection, or willingness to develop these skills through training and supervision.
  • Ability to implement written treatment programs accurately without independently changing clinical procedures.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to accept coaching, demonstrate procedures, practice new skills, and incorporate performance feedback.
  • Strong organization, dependability, time management, and attention to documentation deadlines.
  • Professional, compassionate, culturally responsive, and positive approach with clients and families.
  • Ability to travel between assigned service locations and work independently while maintaining regular communication with the supervising team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement ABA treatment programs. Follow individualized treatment plans, behavior intervention plans, skill-acquisition programs, reinforcement procedures, prompting protocols, visual supports, and other clinical instructions developed or approved by the supervising BCBA.
  • Provide direct 1:1 support. Deliver individualized behavioral intervention and skill-building services to assigned clients in home and authorized community settings.
  • Teach meaningful skills. Support communication, social interaction, play, self-care, adaptive living, safety, school-readiness, and other goals identified in the client’s treatment plan.
  • Collect objective data. Record accurate behavior and skill-acquisition data during each session using IV-approved systems and follow operational definitions and measurement procedures as trained.
  • Complete documentation. Submit complete, individualized session notes, timekeeping entries, incident documentation, and other required records within established timelines. Never copy, falsify, backdate, or document services that were not provided.
  • Follow safety and behavior protocols. Use approved antecedent strategies, prompting, reinforcement, redirection, de-escalation, crisis-prevention, and emergency procedures within the scope of training.
  • Work under clinical supervision. Maintain regular communication with the supervising BCBA or authorized clinical supervisor, participate in direct observation and competency review, ask for clarification when needed, and immediately report clinical or safety concerns.
  • Collaborate professionally. Maintain respectful communication with clients, caregivers, coworkers, supervisors, and authorized team members while remaining within the Behavior Technician role and avoiding independent clinical recommendations.
  • Protect client rights and confidentiality. Maintain HIPAA compliance, professional boundaries, client dignity, privacy, assent, and respectful, person-centered interactions.
  • Participate in training and development. Attend required supervision, staff meetings, QBS or other safety training, competency assessments, and professional-development activities.
  • Support continuity of care. Arrive on time, remain actively engaged during sessions, provide timely notice of attendance barriers, and cooperate with reasonable scheduling or coverage needs.
  • Report incidents and concerns. Immediately follow required procedures for injuries, elopement, suspected abuse or neglect, significant behavior, medication or health concerns, confidentiality issues, and other reportable events.

Professional Development

Behavior Technicians may be eligible for additional competency-based training and professional-development opportunities. Employees interested in pursuing Registered Behavior Technician certification may receive support toward certification when appropriate and approved by Innovative Vitality ABA, Inc.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

With or without reasonable accommodation, the employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, which may include:

  • Moving or lifting materials weighing up to 50 pounds when necessary and safely appropriate to the assignment.
  • Responding promptly to client movement and safety risks within the employee’s training and physical capabilities.
  • Working in private homes and community settings that may include pets, stairs, noise, variable temperatures, or other environmental conditions.
