Overview

Position Title: Counselor - Behavioral Health (MS, Licensed, PRN)

Location: Gateway Plaza (Virtual)

Shift: PRN (As Needed)

Position Overview: The Counselor provides outpatient behavioral health services, including individual, family, and group counseling, in a flexible PRN capacity. This role involves facilitating patient involvement in treatment and education, conducting psychosocial assessments, and supporting complex discharge planning. The Counselor acts as a liaison for cases involving abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and protective services, coordinating with community agencies. The position emphasizes delivering evidence-based practices, crisis intervention, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilitate patient engagement in treatment and educational activities.

Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide therapeutic interventions based on clinical needs.

Perform utilization review and discharge planning in collaboration with licensed healthcare professionals.

Communicate and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure safe, timely, and resourceful patient care.

Assess psychosocial risk factors through evaluation of prior functioning, support systems, and reactions to illness, under supervision.

Provide mental health assessments upon physician referral.

Serve as a point person for abuse/neglect, institutional abuse, and domestic violence cases, coordinating with protective services.

Access and mobilize family and community resources to address identified needs.

Support crisis intervention efforts, including de-escalation and safety planning.

Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records.

Develop and sustain strong relationships with community, law enforcement, schools, probation, and other agencies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.

3-5 years of relevant healthcare, mental health, or community experience.

Current license in Indiana as an LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, LCAC, or HSPP.

Certification in crisis intervention may be required; BLS certification may also be required.

Knowledge of evidence-based practices (CBT, MI, DBT).

Knowledge of legal mandates for child and adult protective services at the state and county levels.

Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan.

Proficiency in crisis de-escalation and safety techniques.

Ability to create a safe, therapeutic environment and instruct on daily activities.

Basic proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with community partners and healthcare teams.
