Job Description
This Medical Assistant role supports a busy clinic by providing high-quality patient care, managing clinical and administrative tasks, and ensuring accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system. You will work closely with patients and clinical staff to coordinate follow-ups, process lab orders and results, and maintain smooth daily operations within the practice.
Responsibilities
- Perform medical assisting duties to support providers and deliver safe, efficient patient care in a clinic setting.
- Conduct patient follow-ups, including scheduling and confirming follow-up appointments as directed by providers.
- Update patient records accurately, including data entry of patient information, visit notes, and care updates into the electronic medical record system.
- Answer inbound phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, addressing patient questions, routing calls appropriately, and documenting call details.
- Order laboratory tests as directed by providers, ensuring accuracy in lab requisitions and timely submission.
- Relay lab results to patients and providers in accordance with clinic protocols and documentation requirements.
- Assist with appointment scheduling, including new visits, follow-ups, and other clinic services.
- Provide front desk support as needed, including patient check-in, verification of information, and coordination with clinical staff.
- Support clinical operations by preparing patients for visits, assisting with basic patient care tasks, and ensuring exam rooms and equipment are ready for use.
- Use the Athena electronic medical record (EMR) system to document encounters, update records, and manage patient information.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care and a positive patient experience.
- Apply medical terminology and knowledge of healthcare procedures to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Follow clinic policies and procedures related to healthcare documentation, lab ordering, insurance processes, and patient communication.
- Maintain a professional, respectful, and supportive environment for patients and coworkers.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in medical assisting or a closely related medical support role.
- Medical assisting diploma or certification, or 1+ years of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Hands-on medical experience as a Medical Assistant (MA) in a clinical or healthcare setting.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically Athena.
- Experience with medical records and electronic health records (EHR).
- Ability to perform appointment scheduling and manage patient flow.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare procedures.
- Experience ordering labs and processing lab-related documentation.
- Experience answering and managing inbound phone calls in a medical or healthcare environment.
- Clinical support experience, including basic patient care and medical assisting tasks.
- Strong customer service skills in a healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge or certification (if required by clinic policy).
- Familiarity with insurance-related processes in a medical office.
- Ability to work effectively in both front desk and clinical support roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or similar medical assisting certification is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in a clinic or outpatient healthcare environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to relay information clearly to patients and providers.
- Comfort using electronic medical record systems and adapting to new healthcare technologies.
- Ability to multitask and manage a combination of clinical and administrative responsibilities.
- Attention to detail when entering patient data, ordering labs, and documenting care.
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-focused service.
- Interest in long-term growth within a healthcare organization, including opportunities for performance-based pay increases.

Work Environment
This role is fully onsite in a clinic setting, working closely with providers, clinical staff, and patients in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime workweek. You will use the Athena electronic medical record system and other clinic technologies to manage patient information, schedule appointments, and support clinical workflows. The clinic offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, and holiday pay with six paid holidays initially. Upon conversion to permanent status, you will be eligible for nine paid holidays and 15 days of paid time off (PTO). Performance-based pay raises are available, and outstanding performance may be recognized with PTO tokens, each worth one hour of PTO that can be used at any time and accumulated without limit. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
