    Job Description

    Instruct biology classes (lectures/laboratory sessions) for students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures. Teach various courses within the discipline of biology with an emphasis on non-majors course development such as Introductory Biology (100) and Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology (160). Use multiple methods of instruction, assessment results, and appropriate technologies to engage students and promote student success. Participate in divisional meetings and activities, campus meetings, divisional activities, and curriculum development as needed.

    Essential Functions

    50% - Instruction & Student Engagement - Supervises and instructs a diverse population of students in a classroom setting; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; uses learning centered strategies to engage students and promote student success;

    20% - Student Assessment & Instructional Improvement - Assesses and evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors students' scholastic records; prepares and grades examinations and other learning activities; participates in division and college assessment and program review processes; uses assessment and evaluation results to improve instruction and student learning

    20% - Curriculum Development & Instructional Innovation - Develops instructional materials and curriculum; demonstrates innovation in teaching and learning and the scholarship of learning by focusing on student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery or scheduling techniques; maintains a team approach in collaborating with faculty, staff, and students.

    10% - Professional Development, College Service & Student Support - Remains current with new trends and developments in the field through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars, and workshops; participates in college and district activities including department/division meetings, committees, workshops and projects. Maintains office hours to assist, tutor, and advise students to promote learning, citizenship and personal development; works with students outside of the classroom on instructional activities and projects.
