Breast Sonographer / Ultrasound Technologist
No Evenings, Weekends, or Call
Birmingham OB/Gyn is seeking an experienced Breast Sonographer or Ultrasound Technologist to join our women’s health imaging team in Birmingham, Alabama.
The primary responsibility of this position is performing high-quality diagnostic breast ultrasound examinations. The successful candidate will either hold a breast sonography certification or have extensive hands-on experience performing diagnostic breast ultrasounds.
Because this position is part of a comprehensive women’s health practice, familiarity and experience with gynecologic and obstetric ultrasound are also required. However, diagnostic breast imaging will remain the primary focus of the role.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced sonographer seeking meaningful clinical work, a supportive outpatient environment, and a predictable weekday schedule with no evenings, weekends, or call.
Schedule
Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
No evenings
No weekends
No overnight or night call

Primary Responsibilities
Perform diagnostic breast ultrasound examinations according to established protocols and physician orders
Obtain high-quality images of breast tissue, lesions, and areas of clinical concern
Accurately document the location, size, characteristics, and other relevant features of areas of interest
Review available clinical information and prior imaging when appropriate before performing examinations
Communicate relevant technical findings promptly and professionally to the interpreting physician
Work collaboratively with physicians and clinical staff to support timely, coordinated patient care
Perform or assist with pelvic, transvaginal, abdominal, and obstetric ultrasound examinations as needed
Explain procedures clearly and provide a calm, compassionate experience for patients, particularly those who may be anxious about a breast finding
Accurately document examinations and patient information in Greenway PrimeSuite
Properly operate, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment
Follow established standards for image quality, patient identification, infection prevention, safety, and confidentiality
Maintain complete and accurate ultrasound records
Participate in quality-assurance activities and ongoing professional development

GE Voluson ultrasound systems
Greenway PrimeSuite electronic medical record
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography or medical imaging program
Current professional sonography or radiologic technology certification
Demonstrated experience performing diagnostic breast ultrasound examinations
Working knowledge of breast anatomy, pathology, ultrasound terminology, and diagnostic imaging protocols
Familiarity and experience with gynecologic and obstetric ultrasound
Strong image-acquisition and documentation skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to provide compassionate care to patients who may be experiencing anxiety or uncertainty
Strong attention to detail and sound clinical judgment
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with physicians and other members of the clinical team
Current BLS certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire
Preferred Qualifications
ARDMS certification with the Breast specialty: RDMS(BR)
ARRT certification and registration in Breast Sonography: R.T.(BS)
ARDMS certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology: RDMS(OB/GYN)
At least two years of diagnostic breast ultrasound experience
Experience in an outpatient breast imaging or women’s health setting
Experience using GE Voluson ultrasound systems
Experience with Greenway PrimeSuite or a similar electronic medical record system
Candidates with extensive diagnostic breast ultrasound experience who do not currently hold a breast-specific credential are encouraged to apply. Breast ultrasound competency and experience will be carefully evaluated during the selection process.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand, sit, and maintain scanning positions for extended periods; assist patients with positioning; move ultrasound equipment when necessary; and perform the repetitive hand, wrist, arm, and shoulder movements associated with diagnostic sonography.
