The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Health Resources Division/ Fiscal and Operations Bureau.
The Fiscal and Operations Bureau is responsible for the administration and management of all the financial, accounting and budget responsibilities for two divisions: Health Resources and Medicaid Health Services Management. The bureau coordinates Medicaid, Montana Health and Economic Livelihood Partnership Plan (HELP), Healthy Montana Kids (HMK), and other grant expenditures between the Medicaid/HELP/HMK bureaus; prepares forecasting information for all the bureaus and provides it to other department staff to utilize. Montana Medicaid, HELP, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) have a combined budget in excess of $1 billion and provide services to more than 190,000 Montanans.
The job includes preparing and analyzing the budget and financial reports, along with legislative requirements. Other duties include researching and providing expenditure controls; analyzing financial fiscal data, provider/claim data and payments; and analyzing management information systems data. The position must provide recommendations on financial or claim information.

Meet minimum qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, math or closely related field.
Five years' experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Preferred:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), SABHRS and Internet Budget Analysis and Reporting System (IBARS) experience.
Medicaid, HELP, or Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) program experience and knowledge of related federal and state laws, rules and regulations.

Additional Information
This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
