Description/Job Summary

This position is an essential employee. They are responsible for ensuring all BCCC campuses are safe. They report any suspicious activities to their supervisor. They ensure students, faculty and administrators are safe.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Patrol campus and report suspected crimes, accidents, or activities of questionable/suspicious nature;
  • Write detailed report of incidents that occur on campus;
  • Conduct radio communications including serving as dispatcher as required
  • Enforce parking and traffic control for designated special events;
  • Secure, inspect, and open College buildings and facilities;
  • Maintains logs for visitors and other personnel;
  • Maintain records and reports
  • Answer and reset fire alarms;
  • Raises and lowers flags;
  • May train lower level building security officers
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED

Experience:

  • Two (2) years of experience serving as a public safety officer or security guard.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AA Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience serving as a public safety officer or in a similar field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions;
  • Ability to courteously and effectively deal with persons of diverse backgrounds;
  • Ability to make observations and clearly describe them;
  • Ability to follow prescribed procedures for the protection and safety of self, visitors and employees;
  • Ability to interpret, explain, and enforce institutional rules and regulations.
