Description
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Superintendent or General Foreman, the Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining buses and other fleet vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform testing, repair, installation, and maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension, steering, and electronic components.
Remove, inspect, repair, and replace defective parts and vehicle components.
Rebuild diesel engines and replace engines and transmissions as required.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate diagnostic tools.
Perform repairs using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and measuring instruments.
Adjust diesel engine components such as valves, timing, and injectors.
Inspect and maintain brake systems, bearings, axles, wheel bearings, and air brake components.
Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, tire replacements, and light repairs.
Determine equipment serviceability and ensure vehicles meet operational standards.
Follow safety procedures and maintain compliance with workplace regulations.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum 3 years of mechanical experience, preferably with diesel engines.
ASE certification is a plus.
Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain the required commercial license and endorsements.
Ability to pass background screening and physical examination.
Good driving record.
Ability to work first or second shift with overtime as needed.
