POSITION SUMMARY The Bus Driver plays a critical role in supporting the mission of BRYSS and Tejano Center by providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for students to and from school, field trips, and extracurricular activities. The Bus Driver is responsible for maintaining a safe and respectful environment while ensuring compliance with all districts, state, and federal transportation regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum Qualifications

• Clear and valid Texas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation drug/alcohol screenings and annual physical examinations.
• Ability to complete and maintain required bus driver safety training and certifications.
• Strong communication, organizational, and student management skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to safely operate a school bus and use GPS and routing systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Vehicle Operations

• Safely operate a school bus daily following assigned routes and schedules.

• Transport students and staff to extracurricular activities, events, and field trips.

• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report mechanical concerns promptly.

• Maintain cleanliness, fuel levels, and overall condition of assigned vehicle.

• Report all accidents, injuries, incidents, and vehicle damage immediately. Student Management

• Supervise students during loading, unloading, and transportation.

• Instruct students on bus safety procedures and expectations.

• Maintain discipline and report behavioral concerns to campus administration.

• Conduct emergency evacuation procedures when necessary.

Safety and Compliance

• Observe all traffic laws, safety regulations, and district transportation policies.
• Ensure emergency equipment is available and in proper working conditions
• Identify and report hazardous road or route conditions.
• Follow all district emergency and safety protocols.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Operate two-way radio communication equipment.
• Maintain accurate transportation records including mileage, fuel usage, and passenger counts.
• Complete all reports and documentation in a timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Operate school bus, GPS, two-way radio, and safety equipment including fire extinguishers, flares, and reflective signs.
• Prolonged sitting and driving; frequent standing, bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing.
• Frequent reaching, grasping, walking, and stair climbing.
• Light lifting and carrying up to 15 pounds.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, vehicle fumes, moving traffic, and irregular work hours.
• Ability to maintain emotional control, professionalism, and sound judgment under stress.
