REPORTS TO:
The Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To safely transport children to and from school and on any activities during and after school hours.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safely operates the school bus in accordance with all relevant laws, regulations, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Picks up and delivers students in accordance with the routes and schedules developed by the Supervisor of Transportation.
- Effectively manages student behavior.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with students, other drivers, supervisors, and administrators.
- Maintains self-control under pressure.
- Attends any in-service training classes as required by the District.
- Maintains a satisfactory driving and criminal background record.
- Reads and interprets schedules and forms and uses a map for directions, when necessary.
- Cleans assigned bus on at least a weekly basis.
- Conducts a thorough pre-trip inspection daily and promptly reports maintenance and repair needs.
- Arrives at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to scheduled departure.
- Participates in at least two (2) bus evacuations per year.
- All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must hold a valid CDL B with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements and a School Bus Driver Certificate.
- Must be able to pass CORI and fingerprint-based state and national criminal background tests.
- Must submit to pre-employment and random substance abuse and alcohol testing.
- Must be able to meet or exceed the annual state required physical examination.
- Must know the rules, regulations, procedures and laws as they relate to the operation of a school bus.
- Must have the ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
EVALUATION: The Transportation Supervisor will evaluate performance of this position.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full time, school year, 20 hours per week.
WORK CLASSIFICATION:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Meet or exceed the requirements of the annual state physical examination.
- Possess the ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Maintain intense concentration, particularly in poor driving conditions.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Bus Drivers must work in all weather conditions.
