Primary Purpose:

The Bus Driver Trainee is a training position designed to prepare qualified individuals to become certified school bus drivers for Allen Independent School District

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

• Possess or successfully obtain a Commercial Learner''s Permit (CLP) with the required Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements within 90 calendar days from start date.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Must be 18 years of age
• Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
• Must be able to pass an annual transportation employee performance test
• Ability to complete required bus driver safety training
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Proficient map reading skills
• Ability to manage student behavior
• Ability to communicate effectively with others
• Ability to operate bus

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Training and Certification

• Participate fully in and complete the Allen ISD Bus Driver Training Program, ELDT(Entry Level Driver Training) program, and obtain CDL within 90 days of hire date.
• Obtain and maintain all required licenses, permits, certifications, medical qualifications, and other credentials necessary to operate a school bus.

ADVANCEMENT TO BUS DRIVER

Successful completion of the Bus Driver Trainee classification does not automatically guarantee advancement to a regular Bus Driver position. To be considered for advancement, the trainee must:

• Successfully complete all required District training.
• Obtain the required CDL and endorsements.
• Successfully complete all required state and federal certifications.
• Demonstrate satisfactory driving and safety performance.
• Demonstrate satisfactory student management skills.
• Demonstrate satisfactory attendance and reliability.
• Demonstrate satisfactory performance during the training period.
• Meet all other qualifications established by Allen ISD for the Bus Driver position.
• Advancement will be based upon successful completion of the training program and the trainee''s ability to demonstrate competency in all essential functions of the Bus Driver position.

None.

Customer Care Skills: Mental Demands/Physical Demands:

Tools/Equipment Used: Operate school bus; two-way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

Motion: Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching

Lifting: Limited lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds).

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress

Salary: Pay Grade OS04: $17.68-$20.87 hourly rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.
