SUMMARY

Bus

Mechanics

play

a

vital

role

in

ensuring

students

arrive

at

school

safely

and

on

time

by

maintaining

and

repairing

the

district's

fleet

of

school

buses.

Successful

candidates

are

dependable,

safety

focused

professionals

who

take

pride

in

their

technical

expertise,

attention

to

detail,

and

commitment

to

supporting

student

transportation.

This

position

requires

effective

collaboration

with

transportation

team

members,

the

physical

ability

to

perform

mechanical

duties,

a

valid

driver's

license

with

required

certifications,

and

completion

of

all

bus

driving

classes

mandated

by

the

Michigan

Department

of

Education.

Retirees

students

relevant

experience

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education

Requirements:

High

School

diploma

or

equivalent.

Completion

of

necessary

driving

classes

per

Michigan

Department

of

Education.

Certifications

and

licenses

Requirements:

Valid

driver's

license

CDL

with

A-P-S

endorsements;

air

brakes

(no

restrictions)

or

willingness

to

obtain.

Interpersonal

Skills:

Ability

to

work

collaboratively

with

Transportation

colleagues.

Skills

Needed:

Must

be

able

to

pass

a

physical

and

drug

test.

Knowledge

and

training

in

major

and

minor

repairs,

overhaul,

and

maintenance

of

district-operated

buses,

vehicles,

and

mechanical

equipment.

Knowledge

of

diesel

engines.

Skills

necessary

for

body

work

and

painting.

Basic

computer

knowledge.

Good

attendance

record.

Neat

work

habits.

Ability

to

exert

20

to

50

pounds

of

force

occasionally

or

10-25

pounds

of

force

frequently.

2 RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate

activities

to

ensure

proper

maintenance

of

school

buses

and

district

vehicles.

Diagnose,

repair,

rebuild,

and

make

adjustments

on

all

vehicle

systems.

Assist

in

planning,

organizing,

and

completing

mechanical

repair

operations

for

district

maintenance

programs

on

all

school

district

equipment.

Maintain

thorough

knowledge

and

ability

to

repair

components

on

all

systems,

including

operating

shop

equipment.

Ensure

adequate

maintenance

and

repair

records

are

maintained

for

district

vehicles.

Assist

in

the

care

of

tools,

equipment,

and

facilities

of

the

bus

garage.

Attend

county/state

in-service

programs

and

meetings

as

required

by

the

Transportation

Supervisor.

Perform

other

duties

as

necessary

for

the

effective

and

efficient

operation

of

the

Transportation

Department,

including

snow

plowing

and

removal.
