NJ candidates will be given priority compared to candidates from other locations joining on day 1. We are open for other locations candidates who are willing to relocate but NJ based candidates will be given priority based on our past experience.
CFA Certification will be given priority.
Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, technical-minded Business Analyst with deep knowledge of fixed income instruments, Separately Managed Account (SMA) structures, and front-to-back investment workflows. You will work closely with Portfolio Managers, Trading Desks, Compliance, Risk, and Software Engineering teams to gather requirements, map data flows, optimize order management systems (OMS/EMS), and deliver scalable technical solutions.
The successful candidate will be hands on, proactive, and accountable, with strong financial services / capital markets domain knowledge, solid SQL skills, and the ability to decompose complex business logic, understand existing technical implementations, and work closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to ensure the reliable, high quality delivery of data products.
Key Responsibilities:
Requirements & Specifications: Gather, analyze, and translate complex business and regulatory requirements into detailed functional specifications, user stories, data mappings, and process flow diagrams
Fixed Income & SMA Workflow Optimization: Partner with portfolio management and trading teams to support SMA onboarding, model portfolio replication, tax-loss harvesting, cashflow forecasting (coupons, principal, calls, maturities), and trade execution
Data & Technical Analysis: Utilize SQL and data-querying tools to inspect, validate, and trace fixed income security attributes, trade lifecycles, and reference data across internal databases
System Integration & Testing: Partner with technology teams to design platform enhancements, manage UAT (User Acceptance Testing) plans, execute test cases, and lead defect tracking and resolution
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary translation layer between business stakeholders (Trading, Compliance, Operations) and technical teams (Software Developers, Data Engineers)
Essential skills/knowledge/experience:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Information Systems, or a related discipline.
8+ years proven experience in a Technical Business Analyst, Business Systems Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role within financial services / capital markets.
Experience working with industry standard investment or portfolio management platforms.
Strong understanding of financial services data domains, with the ability to engage confidently with Front Office, Risk, Operations, and Technology stakeholders without heavy translation layers.
Demonstrated experience acting as a primary BA/BSA for BAU and production critical issues, with clear ownership from investigation through resolution.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills, particularly in the context of complex data, business logic, and operational issues.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non technical audiences.
Technical Skills & Experience:
Strong SQL expertise, including the ability to:
write, review, and optimise complex queries,
perform independent data analysis and validation
Hands on experience working with relational data models and enterprise data platforms (e.g. Client SQL Server).
Ability to read existing code (e.g. SQL, Python, Java) to extract, decompose, and validate underlying business logic.
Good understanding of data flows, system integrations, and application architectures within enterprise environments.
