Our client is hiring a relationship-oriented Business Development Coordinator to identify opportunities, develop client relationships and help win commercial construction work throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth market. This is a growth-focused role, not simply account administration or maintaining a contact list.
We welcome two types of experience:
- a construction professional with sales exposure and strong relationship-building potential, or
- an accomplished salesperson with relevant construction exposure who can learn the business.
You do not need to bring an established book of business. You do need to communicate credibly with construction customers, initiate conversations and follow opportunities through.
Working with senior leadership, estimating, operations and project management, you will help identify the right prospects, qualify opportunities and maintain the follow-through needed to turn relationships into new work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify commercial construction opportunities, target clients, referral sources and industry partners across DFW.
- Research prospective clients, projects, owners, developers, architects, engineers and other key contacts before outreach.
- Initiate outreach and build relationships through calls, email, LinkedIn, referrals, networking and in-person meetings.
- Develop new relationships and strengthen existing ones through consistent, relevant follow-up.
- Attend local client meetings, networking events, job walks, trade events and other industry activities.
- Qualify opportunities by understanding the client, project scope, timing, budget, location and decision-making process.
- Work with leadership, estimating and operations to evaluate fit and determine how to pursue an opportunity.
- Coordinate proposals, qualification packages, presentations and other client-facing materials.
- Keep CRM records, pipeline stages, meeting notes and next steps accurate and current; take ownership of follow-up.
- Coordinate the handoff of awarded work to project management and operations, and stay informed about local market activity.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1–3+ years of experience working in or directly supporting commercial general contracting, specialty contracting, or a closely related construction market.
- Familiarity with the commercial construction customer landscape, project pursuit process, and relationships involved in winning new work.
- Experience may come from project coordination, estimating support, preconstruction, subcontractor or vendor relations, client support, construction administration, field operations, sales support, or a similar commercial construction role.
- Ability to speak credibly about commercial construction projects, clients, bidding or pursuit activity, and how opportunities progress toward award.
- Extensive sales or business development experience is not required, but candidates should be comfortable developing relationships and initiating professional conversations.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organization, follow-up, and time-management skills.
- Dependable and able to manage follow-up responsibilities without constant reminders.
- Comfortable using or learning CRM systems, spreadsheets, and other tools to maintain contacts and track opportunities.
- Ability to work effectively with leadership, estimating, operations, and project management teams.
- Willingness to attend local client meetings, networking events, job walks, and industry functions.
- Ability to work full-time in the McKinney, Texas office.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
WHAT YOU NEED
- Relevant experience through either of these paths: a commercial construction background with some sales or client-development exposure; or demonstrated sales success with relevant exposure to commercial construction or a closely related market.
- Approximately 1–3+ years of relevant experience. The combination of construction knowledge, sales ability and relationship skills matters more than having every element in the same prior job.
- Enough understanding of construction customers, projects and the pursuit process to hold credible conversations and recognize when to involve technical colleagues.
- Confidence initiating professional conversations, asking useful questions and building trust with prospects and clients.
- Strong communication, organization and time management, with dependable follow-through without constant reminders.
- Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, estimating, operations and project management.
- Comfort using or learning CRM systems, spreadsheets and other tools to track contacts and opportunities.
- Ability to work full-time in the McKinney office and travel locally for meetings and industry activities.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
HELPFUL BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Experience with a commercial general contractor or specialty contractor serving DFW.
- Existing relationships with owners, developers, property managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors or vendors.
- Experience in project coordination, estimating or preconstruction, vendor relations, construction administration, field operations, proposals or sales support.
- Familiarity with construction plans, scopes, bid documents and qualification packages.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, LinkedIn, CRM platforms or construction industry software.
- A degree in Business, Construction Management, Marketing or a related field.
An extensive quota-carrying sales history is not required for candidates bringing strong construction experience and demonstrated sales potential. An existing book of business is a plus, not a prerequisite.
