Business Development Counsel

Position Summary:

Ogletree Deakins' expanding Client Services department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Business Development Counsel. The Business Development Counsel drafts, edits, and coordinates content for Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, pitches, and other business development materials. This position works closely with attorneys throughout the proposal process, from initial intake through final submission, and helps ensure that each response reflects the firm's value proposition and key differentiators.

Essential Functions:

Proposal Process (Intake Through Submission)

• Reviews and analyzes RFPs and pitch requests to determine requirements and scope
• Holds kickoff calls with attorney stakeholders to align proposal strategy
• Drafts initial proposals
• Provides strategic input to attorneys on proposals
• Reviews and edits legal strategy sections within proposals
• Coordinates with attorneys and other departments to confirm all proposal requirements are met
• Compiles and completes all necessary documents and attachments for submissions
• Completes final review and submits the final proposal

Data Platform and Reporting

• Searches the firm's databases/platforms for information to include in proposals
• Maintains marketing content within the proposal platform
• Prepares reports on RFP team statistics for leadership

Client and Market Research

• Conducts research on prospective and current clients to inform proposal strategy

Occasional in-office attendance for training or team meetings may be required. Depending on location, this position may also require occasional travel for team or departmental meetings.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.)
• 3+ years of experience as a practicing attorney
• Strong writing, proofreading, and analytical skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of individuals and respond to inquiries in a timely manner
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to shifting deadlines, and act with a sense of urgency when needed
• Ability to work as part of a highly collaborative team
• Proven project management skills, with the ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment
• Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion with sensitive client and business information
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred

• Experience with Foundation or similar proposal platform
• Experience using AI tools to increase efficiency, including in drafting

Wage Transparency:

The pay range for this remote position varies by location. Pursuant to the applicable state and local regulations the pay range for each location is listed below. Actual compensation is contingent on relevant experience, education, skills, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. This role is also eligible for performance-based bonuses and the benefits described below.

 

Ogletree is a multi-state employer. The pay ranges listed reflect compensation for the specific location identified. For roles performed in locations not listed, compensation will be determined based on the applicable location for the position.
