    Job Description

    About Mayman Aerospace

Mayman Aerospace is building the RAZOR family of high-speed turbine VTOL aircraft, the smallest, fastest, heavy-lift autonomous VTOL platforms in the world. Our aircraft deliver mission superiority in contested environments across logistics, strike, cUAS and disaster response. We are a dual-use company: the same platform that can serve the U.S. and allied warfighters can also serve industrial and humanitarian customers worldwide.

    About the role

At our company, we foster a relaxed and informal atmosphere with a fast-paced prototype culture. Our collaborative environment values teamwork over ego, and we look for people who are proactive, embrace speed and take ownership of the outcome. While days can be long, we prioritize the excitement and fulfillment that come with the work rather than counting hours.

Mayman Aerospace is looking for a Business Development Lead to find, shape and win our business with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. This is a hands-on individual contributor role: you make the calls, get in front of the customer, write the white paper and run each opportunity to an award. Much of the work starts before a solicitation exists, helping customers define the need, find the funding and set up the path to a contract.

There is no sales or marketing team behind this role. You will work on your own most days, and alongside the Head of Operations, our engineers and contracted proposal and advisory support when a pursuit needs more hands.

You own the outcome: success is measured by the opportunities you qualify, the quality of what we submit and the awards you win.

    What you will do

    • Develop and implement our engagement strategy to identify and qualify new opportunities and drive long-term growth.
    • Engage requirements owners, program offices, labs and operating forces across operational units and program offices.
    • Build and manage strong relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers
    • Track budgets and the budgeting cycle, consortia, industry days, experimentation and exercises, qualify each opportunity
    • Maintain accurate business development documentation, including capture plans, activity logs, and CRM records.
    • Run your pursuits end to end, from capture plan, win themes and teaming to pricing inputs and a clear bid or no-bid recommendation, directing contracted capture and proposal support when a pursuit needs it.
    • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and cross-functional teams to shape offerings aligned with customer mission needs.
    • Oversee the development of compelling proposals and other business development documentation for programs.
    • Grow prototype and experimentation work through options and follow-ons toward production and a Program of Record.
    • Run demonstrations and get our aircraft into exercises, and turn warfighter feedback into clear recommendations for Engineering.
    • Analyze your market, including customer needs, budgets and competitors, and report pipeline health and BD metrics to leadership with insights that shape where we compete.
    • Keep all BD activity compliant with ITAR, EAR, DFARS and procurement integrity rules.

    Required qualifications

    • 4+ years of experience in federal business development, with direct experience in the DoD sector relevant to the role.
    • At least 2 years of direct experience working & engaging within aerospace and defense, or government services, executing all aspects of business development including pipeline management.
    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing, or related field.
    • Demonstrated personally carried at least one pursuit from first contact to a funded award
    • Established relationships with the customers this role covers, and a record of building new ones
    • Strong understanding of DoD acquisition, contracting processes, and federal procurement trends.
    • A self-starter who works without a support team, manages their own pipeline and sees each opportunity through to completion
    • Travel up to 25% of the time domestically and internationally to customer sites, industry events, and exercise
    • U.S. Person status under ITAR (citizen, lawful permanent resident or protected individual)

    Preferred qualifications

    • Prior military service, especially in aviation, logistics or expeditionary operations, or a tour in a program office or systems command
    • BD experience at a startup or small defense company, where you did the BD, capture and proposal work yourself
    • Familiarity with UAS, VTOL, autonomy, expeditionary or contested logistics programs
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and budget management capabilities.
    • Self-motivated, goal-oriented and results-driven, to achieve business objectives.

    Compensation, location and eligibility

Compensation. Competitive salary, health, dental and vision coverage, and a 401(k).

Location. In-office at our facility in Long Beach, CA.

Eligibility. U.S. Person status as defined by ITAR (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) is required, as this position will require access to export-controlled data. A security clearance is not required.
