Business Systems Analyst

Our client, a finance company based in New York, is seeking a Business Systems Analyst for a contract engagement supporting core platform upgrades and internal reporting tools. This role bridges business stakeholders and the technology team, translating operational requirements into system specifications for finance, trading operations, and compliance platforms.

The analyst will work closely with product owners and developers to document workflows, define acceptance criteria, and validate releases before they reach end users. The role requires regular interaction with department heads to gather requirements and present findings, along with hands-on testing of new features prior to deployment.

This is a hybrid position based out of the client's Manhattan office, with three days on-site expected per week. The initial contract runs six months with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance.

Responsibilities

• Gather and document business requirements from finance and operations stakeholders
• Translate requirements into functional specifications for development teams
• Facilitate meetings between business units and technical teams
• Create process flow diagrams and data mapping documents
• Support user acceptance testing and validate system changes before release
• Identify gaps between current workflows and proposed system changes
• Maintain requirements traceability matrices throughout project lifecycles
• Prepare status updates and documentation for project stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a related field
• 5 or more years of experience as a business systems analyst
• Experience working in financial services or a related regulated industry
• Proficiency with SQL for data validation and reporting
• Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall project methodologies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with requirements management tools such as Jira or Confluence
• Ability to work on-site in Manhattan three days per week
