IT Business Systems Analyst

Location: Newark, NJ – Hybrid
Onsite Requirement: 2 consecutive days per month

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced IT Business Systems Analyst to support complex technology initiatives for a healthcare payer organization. This role serves as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams, translating business needs into clear functional and technical requirements and helping guide solutions through the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

The IT Business Systems Analyst will lead requirements gathering and analysis, evaluate business processes, develop solution documentation, coordinate across technical teams, and provide ongoing production support. The ideal candidate combines strong business analysis capabilities with sufficient technical knowledge to work effectively with solution architects, application development teams, and other IT stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead business and systems analysis for medium-to-complex technology initiatives, translating business needs into detailed functional and technical requirements.

• Facilitate stakeholder interviews, requirements elicitation sessions, Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions, Design Thinking sessions, requirements walkthroughs, and grooming sessions.

• Analyze and document current-state and future-state business processes, workflows, system interactions, and opportunities for process improvement and automation.

• Partner with solution architects, application development leads, and other technical teams to evaluate solution alternatives and ensure alignment with business requirements.

• Develop business and technical documentation, including requirements, process flows, traceability documentation, and high-level solution designs.

• Lead requirements verification and validation activities and coordinate stakeholder review and approval.

• Gather and consolidate estimates across impacted systems and support business case, ROI, and project planning activities.

• Coordinate project activities and deliverables in alignment with SDLC milestones and established implementation methodologies.

• Provide systems support throughout testing, implementation, and post-production stabilization.

• Support production applications through incident management, troubleshooting, issue resolution, defect remediation, application monitoring, and dashboard tracking.

• Coordinate with application and technology teams to ensure timely resolution and closure of production support issues.

• Identify opportunities to improve operational processes, application support, and automation.

• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced Business Systems Analysts.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.

• 6–8+ years of Business Systems Analysis or related information technology experience.

• Demonstrated experience supporting medium-to-complex enterprise technology initiatives.

• Strong knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), requirements management, and implementation methodologies.

• Hands-on experience with requirements elicitation, documentation, validation, process modeling, and stakeholder management.

• Strong production support experience, including incident management, troubleshooting, issue resolution, application monitoring, defect resolution, and process improvement.

• Working knowledge of SQL or other structured data analysis techniques.

• Ability to understand application architecture, system integrations, development concepts, and technical solution designs.

• Experience coordinating across business, development, architecture, testing, and production support teams.

• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate discussions and present information to business and IT leadership.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives simultaneously.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Visio.

• Ability to work onsite in Newark, NJ for 2 consecutive days per month.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience within the health insurance, healthcare payer, or managed care industry.

• Experience working on large-scale enterprise application initiatives within a complex IT environment.

• Experience with process improvement methodologies and tools such as SIPOC.

• Experience developing high-level technical or solution design documentation.

• Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading cross-functional teams or mentoring other Business Systems Analysts.

• Experience identifying and implementing opportunities for process automation and operational efficiency.
