LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a growing organization. We are seeking an experienced Buyer / Purchasing Specialist for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Philadelphia, PA. This role will be responsible for purchasing, supplier management, inventory planning, pricing, and purchase order management.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, or inventory management experience and be comfortable negotiating with vendors, monitoring inventory levels, analyzing costs, and working closely with internal departments.

Buyer / Purchasing Specialist

Location: Philadelphia, PA 19154

Job Type: Full-Time | Contract-to-Hire

Pay: $30-$38/hour, depending on experience

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Key Responsibilities

• Source and purchase products from domestic and international suppliers
• Build and maintain strong supplier relationships
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, freight arrangements, and service agreements
• Evaluate supplier performance based on pricing, quality, service, and delivery
• Identify and evaluate new suppliers and purchasing opportunities
• Monitor supplier shortages, allocations, lead times, and service issues
• Manage inventory levels to maintain appropriate product availability while controlling costs
• Monitor inventory turns, aging inventory, slow-moving products, and stock levels
• Establish and monitor reorder points, safety stock, and inventory targets
• Work proactively to minimize stockouts, excess inventory, and waste
• Monitor market conditions, supplier pricing, and cost trends
• Analyze purchasing opportunities based on demand and market conditions
• Maintain accurate product costs and review supplier price changes
• Support pricing and margin objectives through effective purchasing decisions
• Create and maintain purchase orders
• Review open POs and follow up on late or outstanding shipments
• Coordinate with suppliers regarding shipping confirmations and delivery schedules
• Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Warehouse Operations, Transportation, Finance, and Accounts Payable
• Assist with resolving invoice, pricing, shipment, and supplier discrepancies
• Generate purchasing, inventory, pricing, and supplier-performance reports
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and inventory planning activities

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of purchasing, procurement, buying, or inventory management experience
• Strong vendor negotiation and supplier relationship management skills
• Experience managing purchasing and inventory activities
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with ERP, purchasing, or inventory management systems
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Knowledge of inventory planning and control
• Experience analyzing pricing, costs, margins, and supplier performance
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is preferred but not required
