BUYER / PLANNER

On-site position in Minneapolis, MN

The Buyer/Planner position in our purchasing department plays a critical role in ensuring the right materials are available at the right time to support dynamic and often unpredictable customer demand.  This position requires a proactive, data-driven approach to planning and inventory management, balancing service levels with cost efficiency.  The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, collaborates cross-functionally, and leverages systems and analytics to drive results.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze historical usage, customer forecasts, and market trends to develop material plans that align with demand variability.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Service, and Engineering to anticipate shifts in demand and adjust plans accordingly. 
  • Align material availability with production schedules and customer delivery commitments.
  • Support kitting, staging, and replenishment activities for engineered assemblies and configured products.
  • Maintain accurate planning parameters in ERP systems (lead-times, lot sizes, MOQ, etc).
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning processes, tools, and metrics.
  • Serve as a key liaison between Supply Chain, Operations, Sales, and Engineering to ensure alignment of priorities and timelines.
  • Participate in SIOP (Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning) meetings and contribute to scenario planning.

Qualifications:

  • APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field; or five (5) plus years of practical material and inventory planning experience is recommended. 
  • 2-3 years of experience in material planning, inventory control, or production planning – preferably in a distribution or engineered products environment.
  • Strong understanding of MRP/ERP systems, Epicor Prophet 21 experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools; ability to interpret trends and drive decisions.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
