Summary:

ValidaTek is searching for a Cable Technician supporting a large telecommunications and networking infrastructure in a secured DoD environment. This role will focus on installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic and cabling systems to ensure connectivity and performance. The Cable Technician will adhere to all applicable rules and regulations, focusing on the utilization of best practices and safety. This role will conduct routine maintenance checks and emergency repairs as needed and ensure proper documentation of all installations and repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain telecommunications cabling systems within a Department of Defense (DoD) IT environment.

  • Analyze, administer, and support telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

  • Perform installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic cabling systems, including CAT6 and fiber optic cable infrastructure.

  • Utilize and operate network cabling test equipment, including network testers, copper cable testers, Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), and fiber power meters to validate system performance and identify faults.

  • Ensure all telecommunications and cabling work is performed in accordance with BICSI standards, regulations, industry best practices, and project requirements.

  • Conduct cable testing, certification, and documentation activities to verify compliance with operational and technical standards.

  • Diagnose and resolve telecommunications and network connectivity issues affecting cabling infrastructure and related systems.

  • Support infrastructure upgrades, expansions, and modernization efforts involving structured cabling and telecommunications systems.

  • Maintain accurate records of cabling installations, configurations, testing results, and maintenance activities.

  • Adhere to all security, safety, and operational procedures required for work within secure facilities and environments.

  • Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, and project stakeholders to support telecommunications and network infrastructure requirements.

  • Maintain required technical certifications and an active Secret security clearance to perform assigned duties in support of mission-critical operations.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of related telecommunications experience working as a Cable Technician within a DoD IT environment.

  • Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.

  • Must be well versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters.

  • Experience analyzing, administering, and maintaining a telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.

  • Must have related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation.

  • All candidates must have an active secret clearance.

  • All candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.

Salary Disclosure

Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, geographic location, contract affordability, internal equity, education, and certifications. The upper end of the salary range may be reserved for individuals who have demonstrated tenure with the company, seniority, and proven excellent performance. This includes factors such as education, certifications, and extensive/unique experience beyond what is required.
