Role Overview

The CAD Designer will be responsible for creating and maintaining 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings, tooling designs, and manufacturing documentation in support of advanced manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing, investment casting, and aerospace component development.

This role will partner closely with design engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, metrology, and customer-facing teams to translate requirements into producible designs. The CAD Designer will also support rapid new product introduction activities by developing accurate, manufacturable design packages for prototype, tooling, and production applications.

What You'll Do...

  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using industry-standard CAD software.
  • Design castings, tooling, fixtures, molds, and manufacturing aids for aerospace and industrial applications.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including bills of material, drawings, and revision-controlled design packages.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing, Design for Additive Manufacturing, and Design for Casting reviews.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and process engineering teams to optimize designs for production.
  • Translate customer requirements, specifications, and models into manufacturable solutions.
  • Support prototype development, testing, production launch, and new product introduction activities.
  • Create and maintain CAD libraries, templates, and design standards.
  • Partner with simulation, metrology, and quality teams to incorporate inspection and validation requirements into designs.
  • Participate in root cause investigations, problem-solving efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support multiple NPI programs in a fast-paced development environment.

 You have...

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, Drafting, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of CAD design experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, such as SolidWorks and/or NX.
  • Experience creating detailed manufacturing drawings in accordance with GD&T standards.
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and ASME Y14.5.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, design fundamentals, and producibility considerations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, technical drawings, and customer requirements.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, technical environment.

 Nice to have...

  • Strong interest in or demonstrated passion for advanced 3D modeling, particularly for complex shapes, tooling, and assemblies.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, additive manufacturing, or investment casting environments.
  • Experience designing investment casting tooling, ceramic molds and cores, additive manufacturing fixtures, furnace tooling, or automation equipment.
  • Familiarity with Design for Additive Manufacturing principles, investment casting processes, metal additive manufacturing, scan-to-CAD workflows, and PLM/PDM systems.
  • Experience with finite element analysis or casting simulation software.
  • Familiarity with nTopology workflows or a strong interest in developing capability with nTopology.
  • Experience with additional software such as Rhino, Fusion 360, Magics, or similar tools.
