    Capital Equipment Procurement Manager - Onsite Power Generation

    The Capital Equipment Procurement Manager - Onsite Power Generation is responsible for planning, budgeting, strategic sourcing, supply chain management, supplier performance, supply chain resilience / risk management, and stakeholder alignment for QTS onsite power generation equipment and related services. This role will support QTS's Energy Innovation, Utilities Delivery, Development, Finance, Legal, and Facility Operations teams by managing procurement activity for mobile and stationary generation solutions, including gas turbines, reciprocating engines, fuel cells, generator step-up transformers, SCR/emissions systems, generator balance-of-plant, BESS and related power infrastructure, fuel supply, virtual pipeline services, fleet management, and temporary/bridging power services. The role requires a commercially focused procurement leader who can build supplier strategies, manage long-lead equipment risk, negotiate complex commercial structures, and help QTS secure reliable, scalable, and cost-effective onsite power capacity to support accelerated campus development. As a Capital Equipment Procurement Manager in the Onsite Power Generation category, you will report to the Senior Manager, Capital Equipment Procurement for power generation equipment and services.

    RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned.

    • Analyze QTS power generation capital plans to define equipment, services, and long-lead needs for onsite generation, including mobile turbines, stationary turbines, reciprocating engines, fuel cells, BESS, GSUs, SCRs, fuel systems, and balance-of-plant scope.
    • Provide timely and accurate cost, lead-time, logistics, commercial-risk, and schedule inputs Energy Innovation, Utilities Delivery, Development, Finance, Legal, and Facility Operations teams to support capital approvals, project schedules, customer commitments, and power availability milestones.
    • Provide weekly procurement status updates for active onsite generation workstreams, including supplier commitments, manufacturing progress, permitting or emissions-related dependencies, delivery risk, commercial exposure, and recommended executive decisions.
    • Evaluate new and existing onsite power technologies with internal partners, including gas turbines, medium-speed reciprocating engines, fuel cells, BESS, generator packages, emissions control systems, and alternative fuel solutions, to balance speed to market, reliability, cost, emissions requirements, and operational flexibility.
    • Analyze category spend, supplier capacity, commodity exposure, warranty structures, escalation risk, manufacturing slot availability, and market trends across power generation OEMs, balance-of-plant providers, fuel suppliers, temporary power providers, and service partners.
    • Ensure QTS policies and processes are followed and continuously improve processes and systems to drive best-in-class procurement performance.
    • Collaborate with Global Procurement leaders to ensure alignment and execution of category strategies.
    • Continuously identify and implement strategies to improve procurement initiatives, increase speed to market, improve quality, and achieve a lower total cost of ownership.
    • Understand business impacts and align with stakeholders to effectively assess risk levels, manage supply continuity, develop contingency plans, and establish risk management strategies to mitigate risk.
    • Lead ongoing category management activities within assigned scope of spend categories to achieve business objectives and benefit targets.
    • Develop RFIs, RFPs, term sheets, bid forms, and commercial recommendation packages for onsite power generation equipment and services, ensuring pricing, scope, schedule, liquidated damages, warranties, performance requirements, emissions obligations, spare parts, service support, and risk allocation are clearly defined before award.
    • Support revenue and campus development opportunities by securing competitive, schedule-aligned power generation cost inputs for customer deals, bridging power solutions, and long-term onsite generation strategies.
    • Solicit and develop agreements for power generation-related services, including fleet management, operations and maintenance support, commissioning support, temporary power, fuel supply, virtual pipeline services, installation support, testing, and specialty engineering services needed to support QTS project timelines.
    • Monitor supplier capacity, manufacturing schedules, logistics constraints, permitting dependencies, emissions equipment availability, fuel infrastructure readiness, and project demand to ensure timely ordering and delivery of onsite power generation equipment and services.
    • Resolve technical and commercial issues that arise during sourcing, contracting, manufacturing, factory testing, delivery, installation, commissioning, and turnover of power generation assets; engage Engineering, Development, Facility Operations, Legal, Finance, and supplier subject matter experts as needed.
    • Ensure suppliers have current QTS technical standards, campus requirements, interface requirements, emissions expectations, fuel assumptions, controls requirements, testing requirements, documentation standards, and project-specific specifications before production or service execution.
    • Obtain and coordinate supplier submittals, technical exceptions, commercial clarifications, factory test plans, quality documentation, commissioning documentation, spare parts recommendations, schedule updates, and closeout packages for assigned onsite power generation projects.
    • Track and manage generation equipment inventory, reserved production slots, spare parts, transformers, major auxiliaries, and mobile fleet assets to support reallocation decisions, cost avoidance, schedule recovery, and strategic deployment across QTS campuses.
    • Develop KPIs to measure supplier performance, including on-time delivery, manufacturing milestone adherence, commercial responsiveness, submittal quality, warranty responsiveness, commissioning support, service availability, and total cost performance.
    • Ensure mutual contracted obligations to ensure the negotiated values are realized.
    • Lead periodic business reviews with OEMs, fleet operators, fuel providers, EPC or installation partners, and service providers to review safety, quality, schedule, cost, technical performance, warranty, continuous improvement, and future capacity needs.
    • Serve as an escalation point between suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and improve end-to-end procurement execution.
    • Travel to QTS sites, OEM facilities, trade conferences, and networking events to facilitate strong relationships to benefit the strategic positioning of QTS and department objectives.
    • Provide ad-hoc support to Site Operations and project teams for difficult-to-source generation parts, emergency power needs, fuel supply constraints, service support, field modifications, warranty claims, and supplier escalations.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Management, Operations, Finance, certificate in Construction Management, or equivalent experience
    • Five or more years of relevant experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, project management, engineering, construction, operations, or supplier management supporting power generation, energy infrastructure, utility infrastructure, data centers, industrial facilities, or other mission-critical environments.
    • Experience developing long-range sourcing plans, supplier strategies, commercial recommendations, and risk mitigation plans for complex equipment or services with long lead times, high capital value, and cross-functional stakeholder impact.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • 8 or more years of direct experience in global supply chain management, project management, category management, strategic sourcing, engineering, negotiations, and vendor management supporting power generation, energy infrastructure, gas turbines, generators, fuel cells, BESS, utility-scale electrical equipment, or critical-facility infrastructure.
    • Data center, utility, independent power producer, EPC, OEM, or critical infrastructure experience with onsite generation systems, backup generation, temporary or mobile power, emissions control, generator step-up transformers, fuel supply, commissioning, and operations support.
    • Working knowledge of commercial risks associated with power generation procurement, including production slot reservations, escalation clauses, cancellation terms, LDs, warranty coverage, performance guarantees, spare parts, service agreements, emissions compliance, fuel availability, logistics, and commissioning support.
    • Experience in leading change initiatives involving significant impacts to organization.
