Department Information

Housing and Residence Life is passionate about the Georgia Tech residential student experience. With 97% of all first-year students choosing to live on campus, we create spaces and opportunities for Yellow Jackets to grow and connect from their first day of college through their graduate studies. We are proud to support our students personal development and academic endeavors while providing a safe and comfortable living environment.

Our department is a large and complex organization supporting over 8,700 on-campus residents among 49 traditional, suite, and apartment-style residence halls, some of which were constructed for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Our team of 200+ professional staff and 300+ student staff from six units supports residents directly and indirectly with their unique talents. We are housed within the Campus Services division, which includes many student service offices.

Job Summary

Plan and coordinate the assigned departments capital projects to ensure they are completed in accordance with assigned unit standards, contract specifications, and schedules. Direct and coordinate the engineering, design, and construction or alteration of existing structures. This role will coordinate and lead logistics and access plans for low-complexity construction projects and maintain accurate construction records within a project management system. This role will manage the assigned units lifecycle replacement plan for flooring, paint, and lighting within assigned buildings. Collaborate with unit leadership to advance the unit master plan.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1

Participate in planning exercises for assigned units capital investment projects. Provide assessments for the Major Rehabilitation and Repair (MRR) program to maintain the building space & systems. In collaboration with unit leadership, define, review, and prioritize assigned units capital project requests.

Job Duty 2

Compile and maintain project schedules and milestones for projects from the concept stage, through design and construction, to final punch completion. Track and communicate project updates and impacts. Advance coordination of projects with unit leaders, stakeholders, and campus partners.

Job Duty 3

Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, Institute partners, unit leaders, and stakeholders in the execution of assigned projects.

Job Duty 4

Develop Scope of Work (SOW) and conduct pre-construction meetings; meet with contractor representatives to review project requirements; review estimates/proposals, finalize quotes & issue purchase orders.

Job Duty 5

Review all elements of the assigned projects scope and plans to ensure they are effectively defined and in alignment with project objectives. Provide supervision for assigned projects and monitor their compliance and schedule.

Job Duty 6

Conduct periodic inspections of construction projects to ensure work is performed to expected standards and contract requirements. Report on contractor performance.

Job Duty 7

Coordinate with assigned units and Institute partners to initiate projects and, as appropriate, with information technology, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) moves and installations, office relocations, utility shutdowns, etc.

Job Duty 8

Partner with and assist Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) personnel with room inspections. Coordinate repairs and remediation work with facilities teams and contractors per the recommendation of EH&S.

Job Duty 9

Oversee the units lifecycle replacement schedule for flooring, paint, and lighting in assigned buildings.

Job Duty 10

Perform other related job duties assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Four to six years of job-related experience. The ideal candidate should have four to six years of relevant work experience. Possess the ability to read and comprehend construction drawings, mechanical systems, project manuals, and project submittals. Be capable of handling multiple tasks or projects simultaneously while meeting the assigned deadlines. Experience managing small- to medium-scale renovation projects, negotiating projects, and scheduling projects is also required.

Other Required Qualifications

Must have the ability to be on call and work after hours and on weekends.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

Preferred working experience includes familiarity with the request for proposals (RFPs), requests for quotes (RFQs), experience managing contracts, experience writing Statement of Works (SOW), and experience with the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Program and Sustainability programs.

Pay Range $66,883-$77,086/yr.

ABILITIES

This position involves physical activity such as walking, climbing stairs, lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working in construction environments. Additionally, there may be times when work is required outdoors.

Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite). Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills.
