Summary
Performs complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures of the cardiovascular system for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Provides expertise to cardiologists, other medical staff, management, nursing, and other sonographers regarding the documentation and interpretation of cardiovascular ultrasound procedures

Essential Functions
Perform ultrasonic exams on the heart, great vessels, and other cardiovascular structures throughout the medical center. Examinations include 2-D, 3-D and M-Mode Echocardiograms, Doppler and Color-flow Imaging Echocardiograms, advanced qualitative analysis of systolic and diastolic cardiac function, and Exercise and Pharmacological Stress Echocardiograms. Assists in performance of Transesophageal Echocardiograms.
Interviews patient to obtain vital statistics and medical history, Explains procedures to patients in a professional and understanding manner. Obtains informed consent from each patient as required.
Prepares patients for procedures and positions for imaging. Provides patient care and education to meet patient's physical and psychological needs.
Maintains echocardiography equipment and trouble shoots problems encountered in everyday operation of the equipment.
Maintains an adequate supply of materials used in the daily performance of duties and ensures that supplies are ordered in a timely fashion
Maintains manual and computerized patient, department, and hospital records. Initiates computer archive functions to store and or retrieve patient information. Performs associated clerical tasks as needed.
Facilitates and participates in planning changes and improvements. Evaluates new procedures as requested by the Manager. Utilizes knowledge of the Performance Improvement Cycle to improve work processes.
Assists in training new hires to this or similar positions.
Maintains accurate and legible documentation in all phases of departmental record keeping and daily paperwork.
Demonstrates knowledge of referring physicians, customers and other departments to facilitate department operations.
Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation from many perspectives and solve independently where appropriate, consistent with hospital policy.
Assists scheduling clerk in coordinating both inpatient and outpatient exams
Additional Responsibilities- Rural outreach staff
Make predetermined routine and other trips as assigned to support rural outreach program
Ensure supplies and equipment are adequate for prospective studies. Informs management of anysafety issues and damaged equipment or supplies
Transports equipement in appropriate travel cases.
Maintains assigned vehicle includign cleaning, fueling and obtaining routine maintenance.
Staff may expect traveling to clinics up to 85% of the time
