Job Summary and Qualifications

Delivers professional care to all patients presenting to the Cardiac Catherization Lab; delivers standard of care, maintains accountability for professional decisions and actions. Responsible for delivery of professional care to all patients presenting to the Cardiac Cath Lab, assist the Cardiovascular specialist in preparing the Cath lab for all procedures, assist the Cardiovascular specialist as scrub tech; performs sterile technique, basic EKG interpretation, assists with transporting patients to and from the Cath lab, documentation of procedure on Mac Lab and preparation of all patients for Cath lab procedure; participates in coordination of care with the Cardiac Cath Lab Management, departmental staff, physicians and ancillary services. Authorized to access secure drug and biological storage areas after completing a medication management orientation and when necessary to perform the assigned duties.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Demonstrates ability to run assigned equipment safely and effectively according to mfg. guidelines.
• Utilizes supplies and supportive equipment appropriately.
• Utilizes appropriate cost containment methods when ordering and selecting equipment and supplies.
• Applies knowledge of radiation safety during daily assignments.
• Maintains safety precautions with use of fluoroscopic pedal.
• Assists with continued education of staff and education of staff and physicians on safety guidelines and principles.
• Performs as needed on all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Anticipates physicians needs.
• Documents all patient assessments, intervention, and response on approved forms.
• Assesses patient for any untoward reaction before, during and following the procedure with immediate notification to responsible practitioner of any problems.
• Proficient in utilization of monitoring equipment.
• Recognizes basic dysrhythmias and common drug reactions.
• Responds appropriately in a “code” situation.
• Performs duties in a safe manner.
• Understands Fire and Disaster procedures.
• Demonstrates effective handwashing at appropriate intervals.
• Applies universal precautions according to potential exposure routes.
• Wears appropriate protective barriers.
• Uses hospital-approved cleaning solutions, chemicals and procedures.
• Assists with ordering, payroll, scheduling, inventory, stocking, cleaning and departmental operations as needed.
• Assists with departmental performance improvement activities.
• Assists with patient transport.

What qualifications you will need:

Education/Skills:

• EMT-Paramedic with current Texas Licensure or 1-year experience as a scrub tech.

Experience:

• Minimum of 1-year recent experience as a scrub technician in a hospital environment.
• Previous Cath Lab experience preferred.

Licenses, Registrations and/or Certifications:

• Current ARRT with TDH license and/or RCIS registry within 2 years.
• BCLS within 30 Days and ACLS must be obtained from HCA approved vendor within 90 days of hire.
