Apprentices will receive on the job learning/training in some of the various work areas listed below. The order in which the training is given is to be determined by the flow of work and your supervisor. The total term of apprenticeship is 1 YEAR. During which you will gain skills that will help you towards your carpenter responsibilities.
They will include:
- Choosing the correct color and grain to match
- Read and follow specifications to measure and align parts and install into hulls
- Position parts in specified openings with screws or laminates
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
- Cut, shape and sand wood, and other material according to measurements
- Inspect and fix repairs
- Milling wood with various machines to boat specs
- Build component parts and millwork for installation
- Mixing resins, putties, and catalysts in proper ratios
- Safe handling of chemicals
Some helpful pre-apprenticeship Carpenter Requirements would include:
- Some hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
- Basic understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
- Some experience in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (tables saws, power tools, miter saw, ban saw, routers, and measuring tape, etc.)
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Ability to work in small spaces
Every apprentice will be required to:
- Pass a pre-employment physical and background check
